No on was responding to what this post use to be, so i edited it.
Does else that posts here not live anywhere near New England? Is there anyone else who can only boast having seen two professional shows? (Phantom of the Opera, Tuna Christmas)
Am i the odd man out?
I'm a college student who was born and raised in Chicago. But, I work summers specifically so that I can go to New York and see Broadway shows or catch them on tour here in the Midwest.

Can't imagine why at 2 or 3 in the morning more people aren't rushing to answer YOUR thread. Oh yeah, maybe because there were all of 4 or 5 people on line. And I know of one that wasn't interested.
You bitch. He's new! Ah well, I'm a bit of a hypocrite on that matter.

I am stuck it TX for now.. but not for long if I can help it! I saw a doctor this morning and I now have a doctor of medicine who says that TX is unhealthy for me!
I've only seen 2 shows as well, I'm around detroit myself.
I've seen more than two shows but I live in the Detroit-metro area and I save my money to go to New York. I will be seeing 8 shows when I go tot the city with my school next year though!
Destinybeckoned-where from around detroit are you from?
I promise you I'm not trying to be rude but....How can you call yourself a Broadway fanand spend your whole day on a Broadway message board if you've only seen 2 shows?
I'm sure they have taken in lots of community theatre and such. I was thinking about it and I have only seen three professional shows, one in the west end and two here in Indy. Some of us are not lucky enough to have the money to make such trips. Some of us have family members who are dying so we spend our vacation time with them instead of going to New York. Some of us didn't fall in love with musicals until recently (past 3 years) so we haven't had an opportunity to go. Some of us only know Broadway from cast recordings and we see the shows trickle down to the local theatres. We are not any less of a fan of Broadway than you. Broadway is considered the highest standard of quality (I know there are some disagreements on that) when it comes to musicals and plays so why aren't we allowed to be fans of that standard, to want to see the best? I wonder how old you are myself being 19. Thats like asking someone how can you be a fan of baseball if you've never seen a professional game. I am just mildly upset by your post even though you weren't trying to be rude. I personally have a very strong passion for the theatre, especially musicals and to claim that my love for it doesn't count is well a bit preposterous. This board may be called broadwayworld but ANYTHING about theatre is welcome on the main board whether that be Broadway or even telling people about a local show you've seen.
Come on, you can't expect there to be many people like you. This board is for Broadway fans. There are few people that would be interested in stuff like what's on this board if they've only seen two shows. They wouldn't want to spend the time. Welcome, and I'm glad you do, but you can't expect yourself to be in the majority.

To son-of a gun: That was a marvelous touching post you sent! Very mature! I'm proud of you and I'm an "oldtimer" who sees tons but is grateful there are people like you!
I live in New York and I don't see anything wrong with people being on the boards who haven't seen so many Broadway productions as long as they don't start talking about things they haven't seen. (ie OMG I got the CD of *insert show* and its my FAVORITE SHOW EVER) Im sorry but thats the only thing that drives me nuts. See it before you say that, I don't care if you see it in your backyard being performed by a talented magical dog. Anyone's opinion is welcome as long as they don't try to talk about what they don't know.
Yeah, I know a ton of big Broadway fans who haven't seen more than three shows, mostly because of their location. That doesn't mean that they're any less of a fan than someone who has seen 7 or 8.
I agree with everything bythesword said, so I'm not gonna re-post it.
Thank you son_of_a_gun... I was on the verge of either tears or a loud angry outburst when I read some of this. I fell in love with Broadway watching the Tonys about 6 years ago. Up til then I only had seen a few regional shows and summer shows in Stratford, which is an extremely talented group of people by the way who put on wonderul shows. I have never been to New York, fact is my parents have been paying for kids in college since I was born, so there isn't too much extra spending cash, and when there is they take me to historical locations... my mom's a teacher so it's all about learning, and not usually learning about theater. They love seeing plays just as much as I do, but we don't have the funds. I may be able to make my first trip this summer, and I am praying for it, but I find it extremely offensive that you some of you would basically say we don't deserve to be here because we don't know enough. I am trying to learn about things, that is why I am here. I just wish I was more welcome...
I find that especially with the older posters if you want to learn and you ask questions they are more than willing to share. I think it's mainly the younger posters who don't realize that there is so much wonderful theatre beyond Broadway. I don't know if it is an exclusionist attitude or they just really don't know any better. The fact is Broadway is the center of theatre in the world today. It used to be London, one time it was Vienna I believe. Broadway will eventually become defunct whether we want to admit it or not but the theatre center of the world will move someplace else. Don't ever let anyone make you feel unwelcome brdwybaby. Broadway is only for now just like George Bush. We may not be the majority on the board but that doesn't make us any less welcome or less deserving to post about what we do know than anyone else. BTW I am not slamming Broadway I am just stating a fact.

Example of a waste of time - Fussing about a mistake that has already been rectified
It wasn't the time that had past since i posted. It was the fact that 18 people had looked at the question and not responded, and i decided during that time that i wanted to post a different question.
Theres a whole lot of snippy people on this board...

I hardly spend all day on this board. Believe it or not i have a full time job and i am in a show at a local playhouse. And i haven't only seen two shows. Ive seen two professional shows. Ive seen many shows. Ive seen shows around town. Ive been to Texas thespian festival three times and national thespian festival once. I was in shows all through high school, including four musicals. I listen to soundtrack religiously, whatever i get my hands on. I research shows online when i get the chance. Granted, thats dismal compared to some others here, but im doing whatever i can. Thats how i can call myself a fan. If thats not enough, i hope to extend my credentials in the future.
So, if it makes you happy, i will call myself a "Future Fan"

Oh, Bobo, there's a whole lot of egocentric people on this board. You stomp your feet like a petulant three year old because no one responded to your thread within an hour during the wee hours? Get over yourself. 18 people viewed and no one responded. How sad. And the number of times a thread is viewed is not necessary an indication of the number of individuals able to respond. Many read these threads without being logged on or even being members.
I also don't exactly know what your example of a waste of time and what fussing about what mistake that has already been rectified means. But I'm sure in your mind it's all clear.
Im hardly stomping my feet. I simply made a note at the top of the message for anyone who cared. I dont think anyone did except for you. I recoginize that the post was an uninteresting one. So i changed it. If you dont mind, there are more interesting things to discuss on the message board than my petulance
Wow, guys, why does it matter how other people feel about about the message board, Broadway, whatever... It seems that some are just trying to stir up heated debate that isn't necessary, save it for something that matters and just get along! It's not too tough, and I think we should all at least try to strive for it...
I like musicals.
Musicals are fun. Even the sad ones. I like musicals too.
i'm across the river in NJ and have only seen 2 shows-(3 as of june 9th- going to see millie) i realized that both shows i've seen have had full cast changes then (relatively)quick closings- The Rocky Horror Show, and Oklahoma!
I'm from Michigan as well (and I only recently discovered how many mid-Westerners there are on these boards. Goodness!). Many of my favorite shows I know by soundtrack alone. My friends at school and I have a CD-burning ring (don't tell the feds!) and whenever one of us gets a new soundtrack, suddenly the whole theatre department owns it (you'd be amazed at how many copies of "Assasins" started floating around last semester). Though I've never seen "Wicked", "Avenue Q", I'm still enraptured by them. In fact, I've never seen "Last 5 Years", which might just be my favorite musical. I read plays and I listen to soundtracks whenever I can. I might be a different kind of fan than a New Yorker, but I don't think I'm any less of a fan.
I think it's great that people that can't get to see every show are still getting into them through the music. You know there are some people out there who don't buy a recording until they see the show, and many times their location prevents that. It's wonderful that the Broadway love is being spread past a two-state radius.
And CD-burning rings are fun.
