I saw that, it's so cute. I love the part where she talks about seeing Adam and Anthony sing.

Oh yes, when she mentions Adam singing "Will I loos my dignity." Love that part. And not just because its Adam re: New letter from Idina. Its just a favorite song of mine. I am getting very excited for this movie.

In the bottom left hand corner there's a box that says "Letters from Idina". There's 3 letters there...just pick one.

Slightly off topic, but donde estas Daphne Rubin Vega in this movie? Why didn't she come back for it when every other OBC member except Fredi Walker came back? Sad, cause Daphne's my favorite. Any else agree?

Well, Daphne recently had a baby, so she probably wants to be with her child. And even though it isn't really nice to say, Daphne looks older than her part now. She was Mimi almost 10 years ago, and she doesn't really look 19 anymore. Which isn't to say she isn't beautiful, because she is. But the mediums of stage and screen are different. You can't cake the makeup on in the movies like you do in a show.

She didn't look 19 then, either. But she was playing a cracked out stripper, so who knows.

My guess, they wanted to go with at least one "name" in the film. Taye Diggs is known as a film actor/leading man, but Rosario is pretty hot these days, and her name will bring people into the theater. Once they had her, they could hire the rest of the original cast. That's what they did in the 50s with Doris Day in Pajama Game and Tab Hunter in Damn Yankees. The same idea still works in the 00s.

If you go to the film section, there's also candid pictures of some of the cast from the Rent set.

Hate to say it but the OBC men don't exactly look like spring chickens either, especially Jesse Martin. I think it was a blatant snub to Rubin-Vega and in poor taste. Dawson is going to look 10 years younger than the rest of the OBC which I don't think was an inspired idea.

Anyone else having problems with the link? I get a page that says "Idina Menzel," but it's blank aside from a black border and some small print at the bottom.

The men in RENT don't necessarily have to be any specific age, but Mimi's is very specific, and she's supposed to look even younger. I love Daphne Rubin-Vega's performance on the OBCR, but I don't see how she could have worked in the movie.

The decision to go with most of the principal OBC seems to have been prompted by the belief that no other cast managed to capture the spirit of RENT in the way the OBC as a group did. While it's possible to argue about the merits of individual performances, RENT is about community, and the OBC became a community itself. Columbus has seen the show fifteen times with various casts, and of course the Larsons have probably seen almost all of them, and they are the ones who have expressed this conviction.

Al, looking at pictures from the Rent set, in full make up, they all look around the same age they did in 96.

Yeah. I saw them all except Taye in person and in pictures, and they really don't look a day over whatever age they were in '96. I was doubtful that they'd look so young, but they all look phenomenal. Rosario's nine years younger than Adam, but when they're next to each other, if you didn't know you'd never be able to tell.

I think she'll be good in the part. Though I heart me some DRV.
