Hello to all,

My name is Brian Oldham, my brother John Brent Oldham (Brent), lived in New York for close to 30 years.  Sadly he passed away in 2007.  Brent had a vast collection of Broadway theatre artwork (over 350 pieces) and a huge LP album collection (over 800 albums).

I've had the collection valued, but having a heck of a time knowing how to move the collection.  Could anyone on this forum be so kind as to offer any contacts where I could sell the collection?

Many thanks,

Brian

I'm sure many people on this message board would be interested in buying some of his stuff.

The person who appraised the collection didn't give you any tips on how to sell it? Perhaps the appraiser isn't allowed to buy it himself, because that would be a conflict of interest. But I'm surprised he didn't give any advice.

Yes, he gave me some great options for the collection all at once.  However, the overall value was +$50K, so I was thinking that I may need to break it up and sell it smaller sales.  I know there is ebay and the like, but wasn't sure if that is the best route to take.

Thanks, Brian

If the appraiser gave you individual values for everything, you could do eBay with either fixed prices (and just leave them there until they sell, or you decide to try lowering the price) or you can do auctions with reserve prices, which means you have some certainty that if something is worth $200, you won't have to honor the sae until the bidding goes above $150 or somesuch.

eBay can be pretty crazy, especially in the last minute or so. I sold Broadway magnets on there, and honestly the prices some people put to make sure they aren't outbid at the end can get rather comical. Someone said they would pay like $500 for a Dreamgirls magnet I had, even though it only sold for like $45. Had one other crazy buyer entered $400 to use the same strategy, that would have been quite the day. New to the Board and need help - Please!
