It has recently been discussed that it may seem as if BWW members may appear cliquey, but let me assure those of you who are too timid and shy to jump in to a fun thread just because a lot of regulars are posting: new opinions are always welcome!! Don't be scared! Post! Live! Love! Be merry! Ask any questions you want (And if you think it's been overasked, ie. Wicked/Brooklyn questions, that's what the search feature is for!). So welcome! And have fun posting!

(carbon copy of this post on the off-topic board, to cover the bases and get to all posters)

New people are always welcome! All that is expected is that you at least attempt a search before asking something that might have already been asked multiple times. A good indicator is whether it has anything to do with Wicked. And don't be afraid to post about Wicked either, especially if it's a question. I'd avoid creating a new thread about how much you love the show or Idina, but generally anything else will be answered kindly. You might get a few smart-ass comments, but that's not because we're cliquey, it's because we're smart-asses and do it to everyone. But all, old and new, are welcome to be smart-asses too if they so choose!

We really are nice people. Brooklyn sometimes just gets certain people seeing red. All lurkers come out! We promise we won't scare you, though you will probably get obsessed pretty quickly.

Oh I don't think so. I found this site because I'm a big Beach Boys fan, and can't wait to go see Good Vibrations on Broadway when it opens Dec 20. I also heard Justin Guarini was going to be in it, and was happy to hear he was part of the ensemble in a smaller but juicy role, because he's really go a lot of talent that boy, and he was treated like dirt by people associated with that reality show he was on. He deserves a chance to show his stuff. And I was hoping for some discussion, for example, on how much better Beach Boys songs are than Abba tunes, and of course have reached a far wider audience over the years, so it'll be interesting to see how people respond to that play, and to make comparisons to Mamma Mia it comes out.

However, I was immediately turned off by the posters here, who made me and other who are interested in this production VERY unwelcome. I'd say we were run off, actually, because of all the meanspirited posts and replies on the 3 or 4 threads that started about that show. I see now there are no threads on that production at all, I have a feeling no one dares mention it around here, because y'all will just jump down anyone's throats who dares to.

I understand there were some posters on those threads that annoyed you guys, but you took it out on everyone, and yeah, chased us all away. This is the first time I've even come back to this site in weeks, I doubt my friends who wanted to join in too check over here much anymore either. I saw this thread, and just had to put my 2cents in.

So go ahead and bash away again. But don't tell me newbies are welcome. You guys showed many new people to your site that is a flat out lie. Sorry.

mereed-I am personally looking forward to seeing Good Vibrations, however the problem with shows like it are that they use recycled music.

mereed I'm sorry you feel that way but the prurpose of this thread was to reinforce the fact that a few bad posters shouldn't discourage people. I'm sorry you missed the point but if you ever want to post anything or your friends do, I'll welcome you with open arms.

Yes, but the choice of music is what's interesting. The Beach Boys songs were written how many years ago? Decades! Yes, but people are still singing them today. And who doesn't love singing along with those songs, and so many of them! .... "Fun, fun, fun, 'til Daddy took the T-Bird away" is a classic phrase in our lexicon these days. I think of it like a revival of some really amazing songs -- not just a retread of banal tunes (dare I say Abba? lol). Brian Wilson's tunes are not only catchy and have cute lyrics, they're incredibly creative and complex. Take the song "Good Vibrations" for example, with its use of the theramin, its not your typical music, its innovative.

Yeah, so anyway, this what I was trying to say, it'd be great to have some discussions like this about the show, but I guess I'm on the wrong thread, lol. From previous posts, I got the impression you guys just want any GV fans to go away. So we did.

Hey guys, I guess I'm a newbie, but I've been lurking for about 6 months...I don't know why now, but I finally decided to register. I'm 20, from NY, and as you can see from my name, once I graduate, I hope to PR.

Mereed, I personally hate jukebox shows and I'm not going to watch Good Vibrations. But a lot of the negative response you describe in threads started about that weren't really responses about the show so much as responses to the poster who started them, who enjoyed making extremely long and pointless posts and accusing the posters here of various conspiracies against him/her, among other things, when clearly no such thing was happening.

Well, Plum, I personally believe that Brian Wilson's songs are more than "jukebox" songs, as do his fans of his new release "Smile" apparently, who are attending his current tour. The song "Good Vibrations" came from that album. I think its going to be fun to reacquaint ourselves with his genius, in this new forum. And Ebonic, I've been interested about the cast too that was just announced, just getting to know about some of them.

ok, well, thanks for letting me say a couple of things about some of what I thought I'd get to talk about when I first came to this board. Maybe you guys aren't so bad??? lol.

We're not that bad! Haha. It's just when some people post 47 threads about the same exact thing and don't want to discuss it as much as sell tickets for it, that's when a few people get angry. Everyone here loves conversing about shows! It's a broadway message board! Of course they'll have different opinions than you on some subjects, but that doesn't mean they watn you to leave, they just disagree--so try not to take things personally and if you need some help with anything feel free to ask!

Oy. Calling Good Vibrations a jukebox musical isn't a comment on the quality of the music- it's a comment on the fact that the music isn't original or written for theater. I like all kinds of music. But not all kinds of music are well-suited for a real book musical, or even a concept musical. And to me it smacks of laziness when producers just say "Let's take oldies and put a contrived 'story' around them and call it a musical."

That has nothing to do with harrassing newbies. Like I said, the poster in question seemed incapable of actually making a point and sticking to it in under 500 words, and also enjoyed spinning rather insulting conspiracy theories about the board. Even if they were posting about a show I loved, I'd have gotten a little pissed. Updated On: 10/30/04 at 05:39 PM
