Not to be a Negative Nancy, but which do you think is next to close, excluding CURTAINS, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, and RENT - all of which already have closing dates.
I think it'll end up being A CATERED AFFAIR. I don't see CRY-BABY closing before the Tonys, and pending how the show is perceived from the telecast, it may or may not last much longer than that.
Hopefully LEGALLY BLONDE, GREASE, and CHICAGO will be gone by winter (assuming there are fresh shows ready to move-in).

Posted: 5/13/08 at 11:50pmI can see ACA closing by the end of the summer. If not, definitely by the end of the year. I don't see it making it to '09.

Posted: 5/13/08 at 11:54pmI think Legally Blonde will close by about a month or two after this whole reality show thing is over. At the very latest at the end of the 08-09 winter.

Passing Strange, Xanadu, Avenue Q, Cry Baby, A Chorus Line, Spring Awakening
None of them will be here in May 2009

They won't close BLONDE until they see how bankable the new "star" is.
As far as CHICAGO goes...I give it at least 1-2 more years.

Not that old excuse. It's a business and it's understood that your show is temporary. It's not about them losing their jobs. It's about tired & horrible shows taking up theatres that could house shows which are better. It's giving employment to those without jobs at the moment. Yes, jobs get lost in the process, but that is how the business works. It's how it has worked since the beginning. No one wishes for the PEOPLE to be out of work. I wish for awful productions to close.
george95 - CHICAGO has had a run of over 10 years. In the past five years, I saw the show for the first time. In the 40+ shows that I have seen, it was the only one I was actually considering leaving at intermission. The choreography is great. The show is great. That's it. The performances stunk, as did several other elements of the production.

Posted: 5/14/08 at 12:38amOn a completely unrelated topic, it makes me sad to see people who just joined this year already make it to Broadway Legend. I'm going to start posting mindlessly so I can get there, too. (starting with this post)

LuPonatic - you just LuPwned george95 !! touche.
CRY-BABY almost closed. the Closing Notice did go up (for an hour) but the show didn't close... happens a lot more than the public realizes.
it should be next but the Tony nominations will help keep the show limping through the summer and possibly through the Winter (yikes!).
I hate to say it but I wouldn't be surprised to see XANADU go. they're just not selling and unless Kerry wins for best actress or the show wins best musical, things won't get much better. I figure they stay around until the Tonys... I hope I'm wrong

Cry-Baby will be able to hold on but it will only get 1 of its awards, for Ashford, which won't be enough to run it in the Fall. I assume it will closed then.
I feel A Catered Affair is doomed after failing to get some key nominations. It is a wonderful show that probably should have found a non-profit to get behind.
Passing Strange's grosses are still low and I don't see it getting any Tony Awards. I think it will be luck to make it through the Summer.
Legally Blonde is probably hoping the reality show will boost sales. I don't think it will. I think showing the entire show on TV several times was a big mistake that didn't do the show any real favors.

I love that the "Best Musical" award is so hard to predict, that makes it exciting. It could go so many different ways - but none of those ways lead to Cry-Baby.
I don't see A Catered Affair closing that soon. I mean, it has Harvey and the tourists love a bankable face, and the show isn't horrible. I guess it could be a tough summer sell. Things like Grease and Legally Blonde love the summer months.

"What the **** is up with all this negativity today"
Discussing the future of Broadway shows, which we are allowed to do here, is not negative. It is called realism and I think some people, actuall most of them, on the board could use a reality shock.
Bad things close to let good things in. If everything ran forever and non of us commented on it, we'd have nothing new to see.

Since when is Harvey Fierstein ("Harvey who?") a bankable face?
and the show isn't horrible.
Have you seen the show?
