Just saw this very well done production in La Mirada. The performances by all six of the cast were excellent. I had never seen Next to Normal, and I actually didn't expect to like it so much.

If you're in socal and the least bit interested in Next to Normal, go see it. Last show is Sunday, 6/23.

Has this theater rented the set from the Arizona Theatre Company/ San Jose Rep production with Kendra Kassebaum? It's the same.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I thought the set looked familiar. I just thought I had seen a picture of the same production online and that's why I recognized it.

The show itself is very well done. I just wasn't a fan of the mousy voice of the actress who played Diana. She sang the role well but it made me realize how in this role, the acting was more important to the story than the singing, especially when compared to the other actresses I'd seen in the role.

I saw the Sunday matinee of N2N yesterday at La Mirada. Previously, I've seen this show twice on the national tour, and loved it, so I was skeptical a regional production could be as good. I was pleasantly surprised. Eddie Egan (Gabe), Tessa Grady(Natalie) and Robert J. Townsend (Dan) were all superb. I agree with Wildcard that Bets Malone (Diana) had a mousy voice, (which I prefer over the chalky voice of Alice Ripley) and that the acting is more important than the singing for this production. Kudos to everyone involved in this production.
