Joniray, I miss Growing Up Unstable too! I also really miss Costco...and Feeling Electric. But I think the show is better on the whole since 2nd Stage. And RE: NYMF cast, I love Annaleigh Ashford, but I think she waay over-acted Natalie. But I adore her voice. (and it's much better than Jennifer Damiano's, IMO)

Ahhh I love Annaleigh's voice but I feel like Jenn's fits the production much more...it's much darker and sleeker.

I actually don't miss Cosco. At. All. And I never cared much for "Feeling Electric" - just didn't think it was a very strong melody. So I don't mind that cut.
As for Ashford, to each his own. I thought she killed as Natalie. I loved her take on the character. She had a great sardonic sense of humor, and humor was something I missed at Second Stage (I thought Amy Spangler found some great dark humor in her role as well that was missing in Ripley's interpretation). And then there was Ashford's voice of course. She brought down the house with "Blue Skies" the night I saw it.

I've actually only heard the NYMF production so I'm sure Annaleigh was more impressive in person, but she sounded way too whiney or something. Which, I dunno maybe that's how the NYMF Natalie was supposed to be. I saw Annaleigh as Glinda several times...who's basically the opposite of Natalie...so it'd definitely be interesting to see Annaleigh in the role today!

*gasp* Annaleigh overact?!?!? NEVER! (Yes, that is sarcasm.)
I'm GLAD she's not with the show anymore. My enjoyment factor would bottom out so quickly no matter how much I love the rest of the cast. Ugh.
That said, Jennifer has really grown into the role. They've all grown into their roles and they've all altered slightly with the out-of-town experience they had at Arena. That's one of those intangible things that goes beyond the music and book changes that happened at Arena. When you're watching them now, they FEEL like a family more than they ever did at 2ST.
