Just discovered Next to Normal via CD. Find the music quite beautiful, and the story, compelling. Would love to hear from those who've seen the current Broadway production. What's your take? How's the cast? Worth a little travel? Thanks in advance!

I think it's worth the trip especially with this cast.
I've seen next to normal on broadway 7 times. I live about an hour from NYC so the traveling isn't bad. This show, in my opinion, is worth a commute from anywhere. You deserve to see this beautiful production once. The current cast is fabulous. Marin Mazzie's interpretation is so different from Alice Ripley's, however it is still amazing. Kyle Dean Massey and Meghan Fahy are excellent as Gabe and Natalie. Louis Hobson and Adam Chanler-Berat are also great as the doctors and Henry. The show is in top shape. It is closing in the beginning of January, so get to the Booth as soon as possible!! Enjoy!! :)
I saw the matinee yesterday and the cast is just perfection...I prefer Marin over Alice.

Definitely worth the trip, for many reasons. If you are a fan of the cast recording you should not miss the chance to see this on stage. You could see the tour in Hartford or Philly, but this cast is fantastic. Yes, with the tour you get Ms Ripley, but you won't get to see and hear the others from this cast that are so brilliant. Just to hear Louis sing "the price of love is loss, but still we pay" is worth the cost of the trip. Also, I have no idea who will be playing Gabe on tour, but in my opinion, KDM's voice and looks can't be topped.
Joining the choir and saying that it is most definitely worth the trip. To put it into a different perspective, I made special trip (from Louisiana!) to see the show for the second time while Brian d'Arcy James was playing Dan. And when we went again in August, it was the only show that I was stalwart against cutting out of our schedule.

I'm making many commutes of similiar length to see the tour, despite the multiple times I've seen it on Broadway and living about 40 minutes outside of this city. Overall the cast is incredible, and the 3 out of 4 current understudies I've seen are all fantastic as well, and all that aside - the music and story is just incredible and if you enjoy it on the recording you will LOVE it live.
Yes.
I'll be seeing it for the 8th time? My kids really wanted to see it and it was pretty much now or never for them.

Thank you so much for the responses. I'm going to go for it. I cannot get enough of the CD, and it sounds like I will love it onstage. As a newcomer to this board, I am so thankful for the chance to connect and exchange info/opinions/etc., with others who share a passion for great music and theater. So, thanks!
Definitely worth it, BUT....isn't Next To Normal going to be playing in Boston when it tours AND Alice Ripley will be in the cast....just a thought and I'm not sure how often you can get to NYC, but maybe go see it in Boston when it's on tour and come to NYC and see another show..that way you can see N2N and still make it down to NYC to see another show
ok, I checked, not Boston, but in Providence, but it still idea still applies
Welcome to the BWW family HopeChanged!
And then that's waiting another 6 to 9 months...isn't it?
It is worth traveling to NYC to see. I saw the original Broadway cast in NYC when it opened and loved it. It is going to be in Providence, RI next year as raulmark mentioned if you can't make the trip to NYC.

Yes. I loved this show.
It's definitely worth it!
Definitely worth a trip from anywhere..... the current cast is terrific. Then, in March, head down to Providence and catch Alice Ripley.
