This all just makes me wonder what The Miraculous Year could have been if HBO had moved forward with it.

Apologies Headband, I think I misunderstood some part of this thread. I assumed the "they" you were talking about were the producer/Broadway actors mentioned, and not the "they" network.


I've been working in television nearly 10-years. I've seen countless pilots come and go. The one thing I will tell you is the network ALWAYS has the final sign-off on pretty much everything. Creatives aren't given carte blanche, some have more influence but you gotta be A-listed for that.

I know the show is a comedy, but check out Lisa Kudrow's The Comeback. A big chunk of the b-story of that series is the fact that two guys got a pilot green-lit, and the network destroyed everything they intended.

Another really interesting story creative control was a show called Valerie which starred Valerie Harper. (Interestingly she appeared in The Comeback, and Lisa Kudrow's character carried her namesake). The series was wrought with creative struggles, money and the network. It's actually fascinating because the drama played out while the show it self had solid ratings.
