"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I wonder the reasons no one has tried to convert Sony Hall and Edison Ballroom back to their theatrical roots? Maybe no backstage space with the renovations, etc? But Sony Hall looks gorgeous! All these gorgeous spaces used as “catering halls” is quite sad.

when ever I see photos of the Mark Hellinger I can only imagine how awesome Phantom would have looked in there.

It does seem to have the Phantom aesthetic.

The article says that the Century Theater was the home of "On Golden Pond."
But I think that when that show transferred to Broadway, it played at a different theater.  I can't remember the name, but it started with  A and is now part of  the Lyric. Someone on this board will remember.

The only drawback would be when they need to paint around the stage black, but I guess they could do like what they did in Toronto and leave out some highlight details in gold so it wont totally clash
