No, Freddy Benson is not Jewish, the song is just trying to say if he gets "Great Big Stuff", every day would be his birthday, every nite his bar mitzvah".

And speaking of which...Nathan Lane is certainly someone who everyone thinks is Jewish, although he is Irish.

I actually have an article/interview of him from Newsday when he did the Last Five Years (I saw that show like 7 times at the Minetta--it rocked my socks) he said that he grew up in a big catholic family and went to catholic school.


Um, Jewish is a religion, so you could be an Irish Jew. Just saying...

Jewish is a religion as well as a culture, and I could not image 2 religions as far apart as Irish Catholic and Jewish.

To clarify, Nathan Lane is not Jewish, although the roles he's played have closely identified him as being so.

Wendy, Irish Catholic is not a religion. Roman Catholic is a religion. Irish is a heritage.

P.S. I don't think at all that IloveNorbert meant to express anything offensive or racist. InfiniteGirl's explantion of the subtle difference, though, is a good one, IMO.

I agree on both counts. I know (of course) that IloveNorbert was not trying to offend, but semantics do matter, and peoples' feelings can be hurt unintentionally if a word is misused or mistyped. (I've certainly misused enough myself to know...) I doubt very much that anyone here would be so offended, but an ounce of prevention, as they say....
