Hey everyone,
I'm wondering who has seen The Normal Heart and what you think about it? I am going to NYC for 4 days and have a lot of choices of what to see. I really want to see this show for Jim Parsons but not sure if it's worth the show or just to stage door after? Does anyone know its running time?
Fyi I see so many shows so when I come to NYC, I like to see shows that are fresh and I really don't enjoy cliched stories. Please let me know if this show falls under any of those categories. Thanks! Looking forward to your thoughts...

The quality of the production and whether it extends past July 10th will figure heavily into when i come to NYC this summer so I'm eager to hear how it is and how it fares at the box office.
I'm hoping it's great, since I want to see it very badly.
I'm (well-documentedly) very excited about it, and seeing the first preview. I have a friend who saw them rehearse yesterday, and from what he said they're actually completely off-book, so I'm not sure why they're being so coy about whether it's a reading or a full production. Can't wait to see it and report back!
I didn't get to see the reading that's becoming the new production, but I did see the 2004 production of and have read it so many times that my copy is literally falling apart. This play is one of the things I love most in the world. Truly. I was in high school when I saw it, and I didn't know theater could be like that. It rocked my world, and I will be flying to New York to see it this season.
I hope you decide to go see it rather than just going to the stage door, and I hope you take more away from it than just getting to see one actor. It's 25 years old now, but I think it still has a lot to offer. I see a lot of theater, and I find its power, still, nearly unmatched.
I don't think it falls into the cliche category, depends on how jaded the theatre-goer is. I definitely don't think you should just stage door the show - Jim Parsons may be your initial hook, but it could be a profound experience that leads to other profound experiences!
I can't wait to see this again on Tuesday. Next to Amy Morton's performance in A:OC I've never been more moved by a performance than I was by Joe Mantello's.
