There have been mistakes made with theatres all over the US; many having to do with management. However, yes, one must look at the big picture ... this is local theatre; renowned, not-for-profit slices of Americana. Many of these are very historic companies, and for this reason alone, they need to be preserved.
Please give what you can; I have never even been to this theatre, yet am still considering making a large donation.
Things are scary out there folks.
Papermill almost shut down last year.
AMT San Jose shut down in Dec.
Carousel Dinner Theater shuttered Sunday
NMST is on the bubble and looks pretty close to shutting down.
A bunch of Broadway shows closed last week.
Mama Mia closed in Vegas too.
You should see what it's like at some of the EPA's and Chorus Calls. There is such a glut of Talent right now in combination with a scarcity of available jobs that it is more risky than ever to be a professional stage actor. I might go back to singing on cruise ships! At least then I'll have some money to donate to some of these places that I used to work at! If they're still around!

It is definitely scary ... and my response would be to just do as much as you can, you know? Don't just get scared and back away; instead, Intern and/or volunteer at non-profits; help to brainstorm strategies for getting more money. Donate as much as you can to these awesome and local theatres. Even, say, $20 a month to one non-profit company is $100 in five months, you know?
Create those positive ripple effects; often times, they do so much more to sustain a long-term outlook.
And that is very rewarding in itself.

Instead of buying that $100 concert ticket, donate to local theatre! There will be plenty of other concerts this summer season, but there is only one Paper Mill; or one SF Magic Theatre; or one North Shore; or one Palo Alto Players ... etc, etc.
And here's a little tid-bit I got from a friend:
"This is from the comments section on a local newspaper's website on an article about North Shore's problems: "Please dont compare NSMT to Ogunquit Playhouse, because the same guy who ran Foothills theatre in the ground has run that place into the ground. It is basically a joke with the way that place is run."

Do you mean Ogunquit has gotten worse, or North Shore?
Well, I'm assuming they mean Ogunquit, since 'the same guy who ran Foothills into the ground' has been doing it to Ogunquit for the last three years.
