Ok, I know it's not broadway, but who here is getting and reading the new Harry Potter this weekend? I myself ordered it on amazon and it arrives at my door saturday morning, can't wait!

I'm going to the Barnes and Noble Midnight Party Friday. No I wont be one of those kids running around dressed like a wizard shouting random phrases from the book!
I'll be the green dragon making fiery noises
I've seen both movies and enjoyed them (although I think Harry looks a lot like k d lang), but I haven't read any of the books. Are they really that good?

awesome! rock on! lol
I agreed to go to Border's at midnight.
If there is a crowd, I will just send Rex in to "mark" one!
Robactorguy,
I just checked out the Amazon offer. Does this mean you're going for the DELUXE edition?

o no way, too expensive, just the reg offer, and then i had an extra 10% off from a friend, so I bought it for under $20.00 with delivery! woo hoo!
I'm totally excited for this one. My friends and I made robes out of old nun costumes (minus the wimples!) We were sorted into our houses, made wands, spellbooks, and have positions on Quidditch teams! AHAHA! WoO!

The Mrs is a big Harry Potter fan so I will pick up her copy (already reserved) at the local Barnes & Noble On Sunday
I guess they are that good. I think I need to go get some Harry Potter books. :)
I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter movies, but everyone tells me the movies are so much like the books it's ridiculous. So I really see no point in reading the books if I can just sit and watch the movies. I could understand if the books were a little different from their movies (like the Hannibal Lecture books and the Anne Rice novels), but the Harry Potter ones are exactly as J.K. Rowling wrote them.

There is a lot in the books that you don't get in the movies. You can't fit everything in a full length novel into a two hour movie.
The books are awesome--and, yes, better than the films (which are fun).
I so can't wait to read this book!

broaddwayguy2 is completely right! The books have sooo much more that explains it... The movie doesn't include certain characters either! Get the books! They're incredible!

I have one reserved at Barnes & Noble...won't be going in at midnight, but definitely sometime on Saturday.
Saturday is the Summer Solstice too. How witchy!!
I'll get mine about two weeks after everyone else, sadly
, but I will get it... then no one will see me for a few days. :)
And Broadwayguy2 is right. You really should read the books even if you've seen the movies. If the films were EXACTLY like the books they would be way too long.

I've also ordered it off of Amazon. It's supposed to be here saturday too. :)

not only that but they are barely making the third film while the fifth book is being released. I don't think they will ever catch up in time, so reading it is half the fun in waiting!

There's a lot more detail in the books. Certain characters have been trimmed to the point of barely being there and some (the Poltergeist for example) have been cut out completely. Give the first book a try and see if you notice the difference.

The Hannibal Lecture books? "Now, Clarice. If I've told you once I've told you a hundred times that is [not] how to serve stewed brains!"

I hope Rowling sues the NY Post and the idiot store owner who sold four copies and makes a bundle. She doesn't need the $$$, but that idiot owner can NOT sit there and say he didn't know they weren't supposed to be sold and the Post should know better than to print spoilers and excerpts like that.
SOOO how did everyone like the book? (I'm a Narnia gal myself) I gather there is a death of a character( How scary for kids ) (sarcastic) Just a guess... The gameskeeper I'll bet !

My sister is sitting in her room (she's 19) and is about 6/8ths of the way through. She's been reading solidly for about 9 hours. I will wait until my holiday to Spain til I read.
Smart idea to release it right in the beginning of summer, for all those kids to turn off the TV and read!
