Let me start by stating I believe ANY piece that producers can raise money for deserves a place on Broadway. If they can get people to buy tickets...more power to them. And there IS an audience for ROCK OF AGES. If the list of bands whose songs are included have you excited. If you're a Constantine Maroulis fan. Or you looking for a loud , racous atmosphere...this is for you. The show is blindingly predictable so it's really about how much you enjoy the trip. And a goofy , silly , grab your crotch and shake your bootie show it is. Could I have lived without seeing this...sure BUT I sat back , if not lowered I adjust my expectations and had a good , not great time. If you haven't seen a musical you've enjoyed since LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA this is NOT the show for you. If you can get a great orch seat for $50 and just want some low down fun. This could do it. It helps a lot that the cast is talented and the sound system makes most of the lyrics understandable. Being a theater nerd I didn't know the majority of the songs. Amy Spangler was out but her understudy was great. Some folks left at intermission but the ones who stayed LEPT to their feets at the end so I KNOW they had fun. I know the people on this board are intelligent and I believe you'll know if this show is for you.
