'It was that moment that I realized that Cheyenne Jackson is truly one of the greatest musical theatre actors of our generation.'
Because he raised his eyebrow??? Some eyebrow that must be...

He's a great performer because he BROKE CHARACTER?
Normally that shows someone is a bad performer.

Actually, I have seen Cheyenne as Radames and thought he was a good, solid understudy but that's all really.
And what Jacob just mentioned really hit the nail on its head for me. When actors do that or wink or look at the audience it just doesn't work for me. I get the impression they're intending to get a cheap laugh out of the audience (I have the same feeling out Kristin Chenoweth, Nathan Lane etc).
However, in Cheyenne's defense I don't actually believe he intended to 'involve' the audience with that expression. It was more of a clumsy way to express 'hang on a second, I have seen this chick before' and he happened to look towards the audience. It was definitely not in the annoying Kristin way as in 'look at me, how funny I am'.

He didn't break character...Modern-Day Radames was recognizing Modern-Day Aida and his face was mirroring his confusion...he obviously had to look at the audience or else the audience wouldn't have completely seen his face, right?

NNY-I understand what he was trying to do...but he did it the wrong way. Unless the character is supposed to break the fourth wall (ie. "Kismet", "H2$", and even one scene in "Wicked") the actor should never acknowledge the audience. If he would have taken a step back in slight shock while turning his body to show the audience his face (while still looking at Aida) than he would not be breaking the fourth wall.
BTW- I find Mr. Jackson to be a great performer.
