Quick, turn on Turner Classic Movies! You can watch Judy "Sing 'em all and we'll stay all night."
Really, though, to all you younger posters, if you can catch A STAR IS BORN or MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS tonight you will see why she is an icon.
Also a very young Angela Landsbury in THE HARVEY GIRLS!

Love Meet Me In St. Louis, Star Is Born, and Harvey Girls!
How come I never got the Homo-weekly Newsletter talling me that it is a gay holiday!?
LOL I have every Judy movie on tape, but I'll still end up watching the marathon. I never tire of her movies.
I think my favorite is "The Clock" because it is her only non-musical role under the MGM contract, and she did such an amazing job in that film. I think my favorite musical one is "Easter Parade." Then again, I also love "Summer Stock" and "Meet Me In St. Louis" and "In The Good Old Summertime." "A Star Is Born" is just in a category of its own.

I wished she could have finished Annie Get Your Gun.

If it weren't for those damn alcohol and pills there wouldn't have been a Stonewall uprising. And then you'd have no gay holiday at all. Silver lining.

I know... but what I mean is why did they have to interviene on that film?? her death was a good thing, as sick it sounds, because of what it caused.
And we would not have Betty Hutton's wonderful screen performance!

yes, she is great in it, but I often wonder, when I watch it, about what Judy could have done with it.
Sueleen:
I hope a tongue was planted firmly in that cheek with that Blond Blitz statement. :)
As for Judy as ANNIE, it would have been interesting to see what she could have done with that had she been healthy.
I also think it would have been interesting to see what she could have done with "Sally" in FOLLIES. Given, of course, that she was healthy, hadn't lost her voice, etc.
I don't blame Judy's drug problem for keeping her from finishing ANNIE GET YOUR GUN. I blame Arthur Freed. "Ah, I see Judy is slated for "Annie". Hmmm, now, who shall I assign to direct it? We have so many good people to choose from...George Sidney, Chuck Walters...Aha! I know! Busby Berkely! He and Judy hate each other's guts, so it'll be a perfect combo! That will make for guaranteed on-set hysteria, tension and tardiness on Judy's part! Why I'll bet they'll clash within three days of shooting! With any luck, Judy will be such a mess that she'll be fired from the film!"
Yes, he was the greatest producer of musicals for MGM. But if he had an ounce of sensitivity on how to treat the studios greatest asset, Judy might have been making MGM musicals all through the 1950s.
My friends and I had a little Judy-fest not long ago. We popped in some of her old tv show dvds. There never was a better moment on television than June Allyson singing The Doodlin' Song WASTED. Then, the 'tea with Judy' inteview that followed was priceless.
Just marvelous!
IN THE GOOD OL' SUMMERTIME is on right now. Watch for Judy's great rendition of "I Don't Care" and for LIZA'S SCREEN DEBUT!!!

"A Star is Born" proves what a great actress she was. "The Clock" and "Till the Clouds Roll By" are also great movies. Also, her cameo in "Judgement at Nuremberg" is great.
First, Judy Garland is NEVER off-topic! ![]()
Second, more movies to see the young Angela Lansbury:
'TIL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY (singing "How You'd Like to Spoon With Me?")
GASLIGHT (thriller starring Ingrid Bergman & Charles Boyer)
"Also, her cameo in "Judgement at Nuremberg" is great."
She gave one hell of a performance in that movie. I also like "A Child Is Waiting" and "I Could Go On Singing" which I think is an ironic title since it's the LAST movie she did, so therefore she didn't go on singing; at least not in movies. ![]()
