SWEENEY is an oustadning musical but since you only have a limited time see POET.
I always encourage people to see as many different shows as possible.
It disappoints me that so many people here just go back and see the same show over and over. I am NEVER impressed when someone posts "I've seen WICKED 37 times!" WHAT could anyone possibly gain from that many vieweings of the one show???
POET isn't staged all that often, but SWEENEY is done frequently. Even in New York the original ran 1979-80, New York City opera staged it in 1984 and 1986. Circle-in-the-Square did a Broadway revicval (dubbd TEEENY TODD) in 1989-90. NYCO brought it back last season, ad now this new production.
Also I often find that while a second visit will allow you to pick up on details that you may have missed the first time, your memory of the first time you see a show will always be the strongest.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
