It's a musical about territory. People fighting not only for land, but fighting for what they want and what and what they believe in. the one line that sums up the entire show is "I may not be better than anybody else, but I'll be damned if I aint just as good." that's how Jud feels and why he doesn't understand that while he may not be better than Curly he can give Laurey the same things. unfortunatly what she really wants is Curly. it is only second a love story and a shady one at that because the closest they ever get to saying "I love you" is "People Will Say We're In Love"...
