It kind of snuck up on me and since I hadn't seen the show yet I ran out to the theater last night around 6pm hoping I could still get it. (Since the mezz was half empty that wasn't a problem at all)

I had been putting off seeing the show because of all the negativity around it but MAN, I loved it! I'm pissed at myself for only going on closing night because I only got the chance to see it (live) once. The show itself is completely nonsensical and absurd and if you think about it for more than a minute and break it down it gets even more absurd but I just had the best time. The score is gorgeous and truly was sung beautifully by everyone involved (and I kind of have a little crush on Drew Gehling now). It's a shame this didn't fare better this time around...

Oh yeah, and the cast was on fire, audience went nuts, everyone cried, not a dry eye, so emotional, blah blah blah whatever the kids want to hear about a closing show.

I was there too!! I didn't even realize they had an evening show until 4pm when one of my friends texted me, we were going to try and stagedoor to find Jessie Mueller since she'd been so elusive and we ended up getting tickets!

It was such a great performance! Can you believe how chocked up Harry got at the end! That was my 3rd time seeing it and he'd NEVER gotten that emotional at the end, it was kinda great to see that. We moved up to the 1st row for the 2nd act and Kerry O'Malley was crying real tears during He/She wasn't you. love her! And of course I'm still in love with Jessie Mueller and her insane voice!

Without bread we'd just be hungry but without theatre we'd be dead

So it was so bad it was good. Darn. I love those shows and now I'm sad I missed it. I did hear Jessica Mueller was great though.

I never said that. I thought it was just a really great show.

It sounds that way when half of your review is talking about how absurd it was.

I'm hating myself for having such a good time at last night's show. It was like cotton candy, lovely to look at and fun while you're eating it up, but there's really nothing there. Usually I'm the first to tear up, but this show left me dry-eyed (not so at CHINGLISH, where I welled up during David Henry Hwang's lovely remarks). Harry Connick's performance left me cold but I got chills up my spine when David Turner stood downstage and hit it out of the park at the end of 'What Did I Have?' (BTW: did anyone else catch Connick's flub during 'Come Back to Me'?)

I saw this last night for the first time as well. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Was not expecting much after all I read and was pleasantly surprised. Glad I had a chance to see it bfore it closed.
