OT : NY recommendations

Let me start off by saying that I know many of you will think this is a completely dumb request, but I'm visiting New York next month and on a tight budget. So my question is...

At breakfast (I won't pay hotel breakfast prices), is there a typical American style diner in Times Square? I don't mean just a place where you can get a good breakfast for a reasonable price, but an actual American-style diner? On my only other visit to NY many years ago, there was one called the Broadway Diner (I think on Broadway at E55th????), but I know that is now closed. This is the style of place I'm thinking. So can anyone recommend a good breakfast place like this or a good breakfast place in general?

I know you can search on the Internet and I have tried, but I am not getting the kind of results I'm looking for. Please don't slate me for being dumb....this is a genuine request and I have already hesitated enough before posting it.

There's the Evergreen Diner. It's just across the street from the Cort Theater (I can't recall what street that is). You should also find coffee shops along Eighth Avenue that will offer decent breakfasts. There are also plenty of McDonalds' in the theater district if you need a McMuffin.

The Edison Cafe, only "45 seconds" west of Bway on 47th. Go for the atmosphere, go for the blintzs, and yes they they have all the all American breakfast grub we all love. Prices not half bad, comparable to what you'd pay at a Jersey diner, or at a Waffle House for that matter!
It's in a hotel, but not unreasonable.

There are several on 9th avenue....one right at 45th and one up near 44th. forget the names. both quite good.
