OT: MY EARS ARE BLEEDING!

I just heard Rod Stewart trying to sing the “AMERICAN SONG BOOK” on Oprah.
What can I say? This was the most unabashed assault on American Standards since Roseanne Barr sang the National Anthem
“Where or When” and “Someone to Watch Over Me” will never sound the same to me again. YIKES!! (See picture at left.)

Ah yes, the American Songbook: Where Rock Careers Go to Die.
Just the worst.

Actually, Linda is still around and in excellent voice. We saw her sing with the Dallas Symphony this summer. Now, let's get her on Oprah to sing a few standards.
BTW, I finally saw a tape of Barbra S. on Oprah. The song was delightful, but, oh, that BORING interview! On and on about the flowers - I had to keep fast forwarding.

Posted: 10/23/03 at 11:25amHere's some "what if" useless information. Sevral years back when Andrew LLoyd Webber was at his peak with all the shows running on Broadway, several concepts were being developed, one was an "all-star" concert to be broadcast on either ABC or CBS, it was to star everybody from Whitney to Michael Jackson(singing Music of the Night!)..and an "all-star" recording of Phantom with, drum roll please, Linda Rondstat as Christine. None of this happened as the Faye Dunaway/LA Sunset fiasco took up Really Useful's time and energy, but some of the early stuff took shape in different forms such as the ALW birthday concert and the video release of his shows.

Posted: 10/23/03 at 11:28amThis Rod Stewart-crossover-to-standards is unnerving. Let's hope "Hot Legs - The Musical Works of Rod Stewart" doesn't open on Broadway anytime soon!

It was pure horror.
I don't know what was worse: his signing or Oprah acting like a giddy high school girl begging him to sing.

Posted: 10/23/03 at 12:23pmI sorta agree...the night I heard Mr. Charisma there were severe first act pitch problems...I wrote it off as either nerves or that he could'nt hear himself or the orchestra....as the show went along he became more secure...
