Okay, I want to buy my girlfriend tickets to a show, probably Ragtime, for Christmas. I wanted to get the tickets for a day between 12/28/2009 - 1/2/2010. The discount for Ragtime is only for show dates up until December 24th. Most of the other shows that I'm also considering end around that same date, and not within the range of dates I'm looking for. It would obviously be really helpful if I got a discount on whatever show I decide.
My question is: How often does a website like 'BroadwayBox' update its discounts? Do they usually do it through the winter break, or not? Because I'm considering just paying full price, but I don't want to buy the tickets for a crazy price, only to have them give a discount a week later.. but I also don't want to hold out too long, and not get good seats! Some advice would be great.
Thank you in advance to anyone who helps me out!
Generally during that time there are no discounts available. It's the holiday season, so the prices do get jacked up a bit as well for some shows, if not all.
If you can wait a couple of days, like right after the New Year's Weekend, prices should be down again and there might be some discounts available.

Well, from my experience using broadwaybox - and discount codes in general- I think that if you just wait a while a discount might pop up as the dates get closer.
Also, try writing them, maybe they have a discount that is not yet on the site, they usually answer pretty quick. I tried that with the tickets I bought in august, which is also a pretty peak time, and they sent me some codes that hadn't been uploaded yet.
I wouldn't give up yet - you could get some pretty big savings. Like you said would be a pity to find out later that you paid too much for no reason.
I would not hold your breath for discounts for anything remotely new between xmas and the first weekend of Jan.

Last year, I got really nice deals on good tickets for Equus, All My Sons, 13, and Gypsy for the week between Christmas and New Years from Broadway Box. I bought them a couple of days before the show. I think everyone hopes they'll sell out that week, but when they realize they're not going to, they extend their discounts. I would guess this will happen to quite a few shows...especially straight plays. Not sure about Ragtime though...especially if it gets awesome reviews today...
