Well..let's see. There are over 303 Million people in the US. So we should divide whatever the cost was by 303,000,000 assuming that even those who don't pay taxes now, will eventually, and the cost will be passed on to them. So, even if the trip cost $303,000,000 (which it didn't) it would have only cost each of us a dollar. I'll put in $2, so Janice it cost you nothing.

I'm not sure if or why it matters, but some people want to turn Obama's theater run into a "working trip", suggesting he was already in NY on business and just decided to see a show while he was there. So for those who feel the need to justify it, I haven't found any information about his having attended a meeting prior to the show. Reports suggest he spent Saturday afternoon watching one of his daughter's soccer games, then flew with Michelle to NY in the late afternoon, went straight to dinner in the village and then directly to the theater...then home again to DC after the show.

No meeting...but it makes me curious as to why some folks think his trip needed this justification.

Does anybody else have different information?

It would not make sense to have read it in a hard copy magazine like Time as those are printed too far in advance. This was a last minute deal for the media, who found out apparently by a leak.

Checking the online site for Time I only find the same AP article rehash calling it "date night."

According to an article in the New York Times, the Obamas flew in to New York and headed to straight to the Village for dinner and then headed to the performance. So there was no official meeting.

My response? So what? Conservatives/Republicans are so desparate that they find issue with almost everything he does. People pretty much are starting to tune out the Republican party when it comes to their response to the President because pretty much every criticism they throw at him seems more petty than substantive.

I agree it's neither here nor there.

But what is still here is Joe Turner and I hope it gets extended and has a great night at the Tonys.

I suggest that you open this thread, go to the very first post and continue reading all the posts (Do not click on the links). The more you read, the more you will realize how useless and funny this "argument" has become. Everybody is 2nd guessing someone else and what reason Obama went to see Joe Turner and not something else in another country or state. Tax dollars, or no tax dollars, there isn't anything to argue about...reading these posts, I feel like I am in elementary school and the kids are fighting because they have the "right" answer.

It's all speculation.


Leave the poor guy alone. He needed a night out with his wife. He works hard and deserves some time to relax, and at the same time he was supporting the arts. What's the point of guessing what exactly his motive was? Will it make a difference?
