Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

The CAROUSEL with Alfred Drake co-stars Roberta peters and Claramae Turner. An earlier CAROUSEL on RCA had Robert Merrill, Patrice Munsel and Florence Henderson. (Funny story about tat Victor album: Many years ago someone in the family game me the album on a set of 3- 45RPM records. As I played the first side I noticed it seemed to be speeding up... as Henderson sang "Mr Snow” the pitch kept gong up and up so by the end she sounded like a chipmunk. same thing in "What's the use of Wonderin'" - LATER I found out Victor would do this to fit all the music onto the record. Apparently the first LP editions of GOLDEN APPLE did this as well!)
The SHOW BOAT has a great cover...but the most laid back (boring) orchestrations of any SHOW BOAT disc. Gogi Grant sings "Nobody Else But Me" in a languid fashion far out-of-synch with the way it is sung on stage. The three stars divvy up the songs but they are not in show order and there is no attempt at characterization.
