Probably a cost cutting measure. It's cheaper to do 7 shows a week than 8. They're struggling at the box office with less that 50% attendance most weeks and are advertising "final weeks."
Also, through previews, they switched off doing 7 show weeks and 8 show weeks. It's a HARD show to do (three hours) so perhaps they're just easing the burden on the cast.
