Question: of the two roles, which is the more vocally demanding?

I would say Idina's role due to her flat out chesty belting.

Elphaba (Idina), without a doubt.

So does this mean she's more of a shoe in for earning a best actress nom?? and also who takes last bow?

No, its not a shoe-in. They bow together.

Do you think this has to do with Kristen havin her name cuz of winning the tony that she bows with Idina? or should they bow together because from what I heard it doesn't exactly sound like a Roxie/Velma situation.

I think its a 50/50 situation. Granted, one role is vocally more demanding (Idina) and the other is comedically more demanding (Kristin).

I hear Kristin has a 4-octave range. I've seen the show, and she does have a nice range of notes in her songs, especially the high ones. And of course, it depends on the person. Obviously not everyone can belt like Idina, but then again, not everyone can hit all the notes like Kristin.

But I have to say that Idina has a theatre-shaking voice.

Idina may have more challenging material, but her songs are not as memorable as Kristin's. I dare you to try to get "Popular" out of your head.

I have seen both Avenue Q and Wicked and if it were up to me the Tony would go to Stephanie in Ave Q. That girl does it all and it takes so much more talent to be able to be a puppeteer, actor and switching between her two characters singing in two voices.

Kristin does have a 4 octave range. Idina's part is more vocally demanding, not to mention more emotionally demanding.

Despite my user name, I think the Tony should go to Idina. Both girls are great though. Each part suits them perfectly, in terms of their off-stage persona/personality.

KChenowethfan....

I agree. Not only is Idina's role more challenging vocally but it IS more challenging emotionally. Yes, Kristin's role is very comedic and I'm sure she works very hard, but give me that role any day to play over the emotionally wrought character that is Elphaba. I find it easier to play camp than the emotinoally wrung gamut that Idina's got to deal with night after night.

My personal pick would be Idina, but in a way, both of the roles are pretty difficult to sing. Idina's involves heavy belting, but Kristin's involves the use of the very top and the bottom of her range, which can be pretty taxing.
