Is off-Broadway worth anything these days? Maybe I'm suffering from myopia, but off-Broadway used to be interesting. I can't seem to find good stuff like in the past years. Am I just missing it? Where is the equivalent to "Driving Miss Daisy" "Other People's Money" "Nunsense"?

I think that commercial Off-Broadway theatre isn't fairing well these days. Your best bet is to stick with the non-profits--Signature, Vineyard, Atlantic... you can usually get one or two good ones a season from each of them.
The Off-Broadway pushing the edge theatre is now Off-Off Broadway. It's the only place these days that people can afford to take risks. Of course, there's a lot more drek there, too, that you have to sift through.
But, then, it's a lot cheaper...

Anything that Charles Busch created:
Tale of the Allergist Wife, Vampire Lesbians.

"Orson's Shadow" (nominated for Best Play by the Lortel Awards) is at least as good as any of the titles you mentioned.
"Thom Pain," though not a favorite of mine, was a finalist for the Pulitzer this year.
"Nine Parts of Desire" (winner of the Lortel for Best Solo Show) is a powerful look at the plight of women in Iraq.
"Altar Boyz" (nominated for Best Musical by the Drama Desk and OCC) is a lot of fun.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 5:14pmI loved Altar Boyz, as well. It was my first off-Broadway experience and I wonder why I waited so long. I purchase my ticket at the TKTS for $38 approx. It's also around that price from some of the sites that off discount vouchers.

Agreed.
On the positive side:
Thom Pain
Orson's Shadow
The False Servant (I think this closed, actually, but I'm not sure)
