re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Off-Topic Posts...

while I do, agree with the fact that teh board should stay thetare related, tha fact remains that some posteres here enjoy the off topic posts just as much as teh off topic posts and some of those discussions would be very hard to do through PMs. That was the reason I suggested a seperate off-topic foum. I see many boards that are organized as such and it tends to work fine. I admit,a nd lord knows, I take part off-topic discussions and make off color comments, but I try to keep it pertaining to the subject in some way...... most of teh time.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Off-Topic Posts...

I'm going to weigh in on this one. The posting on more personal topics are indeed getting out of hand in my opinion. I am guilty myself of contributing somewhat with the "Stevos vs Voiceanth vs Albin" post. I did that to make a specific point. I find the "King Stevos is Hot" thread totally pointless and self-congratulatory and frankly sick of seeing it listed. I don't care how long it's been around. As for the personal sexual innuendos while cute they smack of immaturity and amateurism. A while back I suggested a "kiddies corner." I've rethought that and still think it would be appropriate however not based on year of birth but rather of level of maturity. Personally I'm finding the board less interesting because of the proliferation of personal and off-topic posts, even under the guise of theatre. For those of you suggesting that one simply not read the thread, there a very many I do skip because of subject matter, both theatre and OT. The bottom line: when nearly all the posts appear to be non-theatre related the board itself loses is luster. I for one find these OT postings a total waste of space and I wonder what do these posters actually do that they have time to waste on such triviality and nonsense. They certainly don't appear to be busy working in the theatre, or anywhere else for that matter. Rob will do the best in his wisdom and we need to respect that.

I have a GREAT Idea

I think the people who don't like the "off-topic" stuff should just head over to the message board at Talkin' Broadway..

Where the more refined, more mature, more dull theatre-goers hang out..

Ya know, the kinda board where you could die of passive boredom before anyone says anything interesting..

They abhor off-topic conversation there..or really anything that does not have to do with Chita..

Now run along..

and we'll see how quick you run back here!

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Off-Topic Posts...

I have personally never asked anyone on this board to take off their shirt...

and I agree that everything has it's time and place..however, I think stuff like that is done in fun..in jest...

and it shakes things up for a mo..lightens things up...

I mean if I have to hear about Kerry Butler's Audrey, a performance I actually liked, one more F******** time...

I, myself, will ask Namo to go shirtless!!

*No offense, namo you know the anth loves ya

I agree. Off-Topic posts can be a lot of fun, especially when it's talking about Will&Grace or something like that. But I also like the idea of another board for off-topic posts. It's just nice so you can stay on one board, instead of jumping back and forth like on every other board...

Off-Topic Posts...

The response to this thread is a perfect example of how so many people are so wrapped up in their own needs taht they can't even hear what somone else is saying.

The original post by Rob wasn't "stop all off topic threads" it was "keep them to a minimum". Yet tehre is so much defensivness and arguing.

I do skip threads that don't interest me. My problem with some of teh off topic threads is that they lead to other things that you can't just simply skip over. For instance, during abrak at work the other day I logged onto this forum, as I often do, opened a thread taht interested me and found member pics that were not what I would want open at work. Sure, it was nothing terribly inappropraite...someone showing off his nipple rings but I did wonder what kind of site my co-workers would think I was looking at. This was a direct result of The Stevos is hot threat and some of the comments made in it.

re: Off-Topic Posts...

Gentle Readers,

Let's go back to Rob's original posting on the subject. He did not ask for the OT postings to stop completely. Rather, he asked that they be kept to a minimum. The OT postings DO give us a sense of "community"--we couldn't be talking about taking shirts off or nipple rings if we didn't know the people involved; however, let's keep the FOCUS on Theater and not on the personal matters.

Everything in moderation!
