Let's please try to keep these to a minimum... I've received loads of complaints today, and am all for an open board myself but let's all try to remember that *Broadway* is what we're all here to talk about. All the other stuff that's not directly about theater - that's why we've got PMs!

I guess some of the old fuddy-duddies don't like us having our fun......

I don't think anyone's too fuddy-duddiesh, and some of the off-topic stuff does indeed add to the wonderful community that we've got here... Some folks just want to have more theater stuff to wade through than personal stuff. Lots to talk about there with the new season ramping up as it is...

I had a long, long post on the subject but what the heck. It just breaks down to one simple statement that, despite having been repeated at least a dozen times, some people just can’t seem to get into their heads. I won’t even bother repeating what the statement is. They obviously don’t or can't comprehend it anyway.

Much like TV or the radio..
if people see a topic they don't like:
THEY CAN JUST IGNORE IT!
It's not hard...all they have to do is:
NOT CLICK ON THIS TOPIC!
I know it maybe radical in thinking and possibly their geriatric, arthritic hands lack the ability to not click on something….... but it can be done:
Rob: please note the horde of posting on how "boring" and "dull" this board has been in the past few weeks....
and please note the "views" of such off- topics posts, which are quite large!
Right now, the season is only just beginning and how much can one talk of LSOH before one becomes bored out of their eyeballs no matter how much they like the show...or don't like the show!
The OT threads spice up the board...and in fact, that was commented to be by two people currently appearing on Broadway…. even they can’t talk all the time about “the theatre”…
...And they’re in it!!
So take the fuddy-duddies with a rather large grain of salt, please!

Posted: 9/26/03 at 11:12amI'm glad I read this before I posted an OT about the passing of Robert Palmer. I really loved his style and music.

Your right, thirdrowcenter ..
Because the dumbbells who complained probably don't know that Robert Palmer sang and wrote "Simply Irresistible" which was a HUGE part of the Tony Award winning "Contact"...
Thus, he has every right being mentioned on this board..

I enjoy the off-topic posts. They throw in a nice spice. I can only talk about theatre for so long. Beisdes, the off-topic threads give everyone a chance to know each other's personalities a little better.
I say we have a poll:
Allow Off-Topic Posts or Don't Allow Off-Topic Posts
Maybe that can be next week's Board poll Rob?

I think what people was referring to wasn't other entertainment posts but Hottest Board Member topics.

The Web Master of this site politely asked that you keep them to a minimum. Not stop them all together.
Are you saying that he's wrong?

Exactly... I don't mind, and I don't think that anyone minds some off-topic posts on other areas of entertainment. It was just the personal stuff that many people found to be over-powering. All is fine in moderation.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Off-Topic Posts...#23
Posted: 9/26/03 at 4:00pmBut when every other post is "Broadway World's Best Looking Man Contest!" or "How Old Do I Look?," it gets very frustrating.

If you are looking to attract "theater minded people" looking for "theater discussion" that's what you need to keep the focus on. Plain and simple.
I surf the theater boards for my business AND to occassional join in a theater topic.
If you want to talk about purely personal non-theater related topics, have a ball, but please just do it somewhere else. I am sending some serious theater people this way soon, but they will not hang around if this place turns into the "national tabloids topics".
There are some really neat posts here and it's a friendly place to communicate. But Rob's right. It's gotta be focused on theater more than ANYTHING ELSE. He's taken the time to set up all these cool informational pages. It's a great theater site.
Don't flood it with other 'fun' topics regardless of how 'cute' they appear. Just a friendly suggestion.
