Official Ragtime Love Thread

With it's truly amazing score and timeless story, this incredible musical closed far too soon.

Yes it did. I remember seeing this and being blown away by it's score and it's powerful performances. It's a gem of a show.

re: Official Ragtime Love Thread

It my favorite show in the world. They are doing a revival of it here at Kennedy Center. I cannot wait.
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

2nd broadway show I ever saw, with the original cast, and it is still my favorite to this day.
"I'm an American, Damnit!!! And if it's three things I don't believe in, it's quitting and math."

The best show I've ever seen, hands down.

I haven't heard any word on casting for the Kennedy Center production, but I'm unbelievably excited about it.

re: Official Ragtime Love Thread

It's wonderful news that the Kennedy Center is putting on a production. I personally feel it deserved a better fate. I hope it gets revived often so new generations can experience it in all it's glory.

I listen to the Original Cast Recording often and I'm magically transported back to the time this show opened the Ford Center for the Performing Arts (since renamed the Hilton) on a newly refurbished but not-as-of-yet finished 42nd Street.

re: Official Ragtime Love Thread

I think it's the only show ever written without one throwaway lyric.

It's too bad the producer had such a bad sense of timing and the mentality of a
second-story man.
