Oliviers being announced now - Mary wins Best Actress

Laura Michelle Kelly has won for Mary Poppins..

Conleth Hill (Roger DeBris) best supporting for The Producers..

Matthew Bourne/Stephen Mears for Mary Poppins choreography, NOT Susan Stroman

Fingers crossed for The Producers Best Musical.

Hopefully POPPINS or WOMAN will take best musical and they embrace their British-ness, but I have a feeling THE PRODUCERS will undeservedly win.

The choreography in THE PRODUCERS isn't too impressive, however the show is DEFINITELY something!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

It doesn't need to have a well-written script. It's a unique style comedy. It's Mel Brooks. It's vaudeville-like humor in a musical theatre setting.

I'm with Melissa erirco fan in mourning the lack of awards for WiW---just one for sound. It was a completely new and rather original musical, but a show has to be new only to the West End, and the voters liked it. I've seen both, and I preferred WiW, but they didn't ask me.

Sorry, but I think the Oliviers are not known for their consistent astuteness in recognizing excellent performances and productions.

The Producers ( I saw the Broadway version ) was too hyped - while I thought it was entertaining, I was somewhat disappointed vis a vis the hypeI was led to believe before I saw it.

While I'm very pleased for Laura Michelle Kelly, I really think that overall, "The Woman In White" and "Mary Poppins" were robbed. I'm so sick of "The Producers" and I resent Mr. Lane's win for having done the show so briefly. Does this mean he can clear room on his shelf for the Oscar when the movie comes out? I'll swear off awards shows forever if this happens. It's nothing personal against Mr. Lane or Ms. Stroman etc., I just still don't see what all the fuss is over "The Producers."

Congratulations to Nathan and THE PRODUCERS for a well-deserved win.

Seeing all these bitter Bettys stewing in their own sulphrous juices made my evening. re: Oliviers being announced now - Mary wins Best Actress
