Congrats to Nathan and The Producers. Despite the few criticisms here, it's been an enormously popular show. Everyone has a right to their opinion and mine is that I loved the show and Nathan deserved to win. He stepped in at the last minute and was wonderful as usual. And if Oscar should find his way to Nathan's door because his was the best performance of the year, that would be just fine with me. He'd join that short, but illustrious list of actors who have won both a Tony and an Oscar for portraying the same role. I'm looking forward to seeing how the movie turns out.

I really don't mind Nathan Lane winning, because he is good, well, he WAS for the three hours he was there. But I really didn't think that the show should have won. I actually think Mary Poppins might have deserved a win for best musical, and Maria so so so needed to win Best Actress. C'est la vie...

I think 'needed' is a bit of a strong word - the woman has three Oliviers already! I am a bit disappointed that The Woman in White didn't score a couple more, and I'm with the camp that didn't really 'get' The Producers re: Oliviers being announced now - Mary wins Best Actress However, I was bowled over by Nathan Lanes performance which elevated a rather average musical (IMO!) to a good evenings entertainment

Personally, I was just annoyed that the efforts of the cast and crew of Bat Boy weren't acknowledged, but a panel who give an award to an actress whose understudy plays more performances than her clearly have some kind of bias going on each year . . .

Maria Friedman has won enough Olivier Awards for one career. It's about time she let other people win. Laura Michelle Kelly really deserved to win.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

I am under the belief that it should not matter how many Oliviers (or Tonys or Oscars, etc) that you win. The awards should all be judged on artistic merit but rarely are. Any award is more political than artistic. A perfect example of this is saying: "So and So deserves an Olivier because his work on Show A ten years ago was overlooked. So lets give him an award now in Show B even though he is not as good." I just think there should be a blank slate for everything regardless of past when deciding. Just my humble opinion.

I personally think, after seeing all The Big Three, that Laura Michelle Kelly's Olivier was well-deserved. I personally think that amongst the three, Maria's performance the weskest, probably maybe I hate her in the first place :P ! But I REALLY REALLY hoped that Mary Poppins would have won Best Musical though.... it's TRULY MAGICAL! Take my word.... you'll never experience a more magical musical in a theatre in your life!

Congrats for Laura Michelle Kelly for her win!!!! I am soooooo excited. Hopefully she will transfer with the musical to Broadway.

I thought she was great when I saw her in My Fair Lady. Hence the picture.

I saw Mary on vacation with my family. It's gonna be a big stinking Broadway hit.

Yes, a big congrats to Nathan and The Producers for a job well done!

And I'd also like to note that I would also be extremely happy for Mr. Lane if he is nominated for or wins an oscar.

Add another person to the list who is very happy that The Producers won. I'm sorry that so many of you seem to have deep-rooted hatred for the show, but I personally love it. That's why there's chocolate and vanilla. re: Oliviers being announced now - Mary wins Best Actress

I can't say that I like THE PRODUCERS anywhere near as much as the original film on which it is based; but I can say that I liked it about a billion times more than MARY POPPINS. As for awards, I've given up on them, years ago. They're meaningless. I don't care who/what wins.

Slightly OT but not but...
My favourite Oliviers moment was deffinately Martine McNuggets (I refuse to spell her name correctly, you know Tiffaneeee! from Eastenders...) win for My Fair Lady, Jonathon Pryce's face was priceless, I recorded it thankfully and put that moment on just to cheer myself up sometimes... It still makes me giggle as much as when she said something along the lines of "I'm so surprised!" and someone yelled "So are we!"
