Hi all!
I've just been cast in a production of "On The Town" as The Great Lover, and I have a big question for you all! I'm some what familiar with the show, and I know that the Great Lover character dances in the Imaginary Coney Island scene, but exactly how much does he dance and to what style? Is it very balletic, or more of the athleticism that you see in alot of Jerome Robbins choreography? It's not really that similiar to other types of imaginary ballet characters like The Fair Ground Boy or Dream Curly is it?
I'm just curious to know how large this Great Lover dance will be, and perhaps what he does in it!
Thank you so much!

A lot will depend on what kind of theatre you are working in? Is it community, college, high school, non-EQ., Equity or what?
There was another thread on here about Jerome Robbins shows. Often, those shows are done with the original choreography and they are made available either through guides that come with the rented materials or by hiring an approved choreographer from the original choreographer's staff or estate (if dead.)
Good luck.

It obviously involves a lot of partnering considering Ivy Smith is in it as well. But yea, it's very balletic with a hint of music theatre in it. I'm going to try and record a few dance numbers and songs, so i'll try and post.
