Crazy for You was a jukebox musical before the term was coined. It featured songs by George and Ira Gershwin (taken from a few of their shows) that were tied together by a brand new book by Ken Ludwig.

I wouldn't consider Crazy for You a jukebox musical. It is based on a Gershwin show named "Girl Crazy." When working on a revival of it, Susan Stromann got permission to include other Gershwin songs and rework the show a bit. Technically "Crazy for You" is a re-worked "Girl Crazy" rather than a juke-box musical. To me it is similar to 42nd St. They took an original piece, added more music from the songwriters and flushed out the story.

I would totally consider Crazy For Your a jukebox musical. It's NOT a reworked Girl Crazy. I think something like HALF of those songs are from other musicals, and it's an entirely new book. I thin it's a great example of a FANTASTIC jukebox musical, probably the best that has been made thus far. It's really not even close to the same show Girl Crazy was.

So the shows that could possible be elligible for Best Musical are...

Color Purple
In My Life
Lennon
Jersey Boys
The Woman In White
A Tale Of Two Cities
The Wedding Singer
Lestat
Tarzan
Doctor Doolittle
(Is "The Broadway Follies" considered a new musical? I don't even know what it's about)

That's a lot of shows to sort through.

Musical revivals include...
Sweeney Todd
Threepenny Opera
Pajama Game
Purlie
I guess there are your revival nominees.

Nice to see "Woman in White" mentioned as well as the star Maria Friedman. My question is "Do you think there will a nomination for her costar Michael Ball"? I saw this production in London which starred them both and they were both wonderful. Looking forward to seeing it next month.

Nothing to do with the Tony's but somebody mentioned "Mary Poppins". I saw it while in London and enjoyed it much more then the Broadway production of "Chitty".

I don't think saying that Patti LuPone will win for Best Actress in a Musical is "dreaming," I'm sure this category will look as competitive as it did 2004 when there were so many great actresses in the same category which excites me a lot. LuPone has a great chance of winning though, but maybe Tony voters will be affected by Friedman's great courage to go on stage after her surgery and do such a fine job regardless, or perhaps LaChanze will pull a Jennifer Holliday-like turn in The Color Purple, Laura Benanti also looks like a strong competitor.
