Yes.

That's cool; Jason Alexander has been trying to make a movie version of it for four years! (although I'm sure that was a while ago)
I LOVE ONCE ON THIS ISLAND!
I went through my OOTI obsession phase when most of my friends were into Rent.
So lonely, out on that limb by myself.
Everyone thought I was crazy.
Probably because it's weird for a skinny white girl like myself to be belting "Mama Will Provide".
Ah well.
Once on this Island remains one of my favorite Broadway musicals ever. I've always hoped that they would air it on PBS or produce a dvd version.
Oh, love OOTI, the music is soooooooo cool! I was in it once as one of the story tellers

Mama will provide is such a great song. I just wish I could truly belt it. Too bad I don't have a belting voice:/
Oh, I'm a belter.

I'm very jealous. My voice teacher has been trying to get me to use my low more but I'm having a hard time:/
Oh i can sing that song! Belters rock!!!!! WOOT!
Yes, that's the one upside to being a 2nd alto like me.
I sound like Toni Braxton.
Or a man.
Whatever.
Most of the time, though, I'd give whatever I have to be able to sing high and pretty like a girl.
I'm not even sure what i am i can belt it out and hit pretty low notes but i was able to sing pretty freak'n high when i played marian in the music man
There will be a production of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor this August.
iruvyou, I think you'd be classified as "lucky". :)
You know... people looked at me funny when I would deliver papers singing 'Rain', near the top of my lungs.
But I didn't care.
I always thought I'd make a great Ague or Papa Ge for that matter.

Yes, ckeaton.
I would be a great Asaka.
If only I weren't a skinny white girl.

OOTI is one of the best shows I have ever seen. Whenever I am cleaning my house I put on that cd and dance around like I just don't care to We Dance... A Cub-like Build Gay Man dancing like he is from the the Caribian.
I also sang The Human Heart at two of my lesbians friends weddings. I cried both times.
We are allllll part of the human hearttttt
But I must say that I love PP's versoin from the London Cast the best of that song.

I'm playing Mama Euralie in Once On This Island right now. We open next week!
Break a leg, chica!
"Ti Moune" is like the saddest song ever.
I cry every time I hear it.
Sing the heck out of it.

I own a theatre company and I'm directing/music directing OOTI this summer. I'm having a great time. The show is amazing. Our cast is a bunch of white suburban college students, but we have some great talent. Our Asaka is skinnier than a pole, but boy can she belt it out.

I don't know the show, but I once performed Waiting for Life at some dinner theatre shindig thingy....
After reading your enthusiastic posts I am SO going to go do me some research!

OOTI ROCKS! I played Andrea last year and I still miss the show!
See - my new icon is my hubby (Papa Ge) and Ti-Moune. Awesome show!!!!
Thanks Finn.
You have given this skinny white girl hope!
Someday, somehow, I will be mother of the Earth.
As for the nay-sayers

~ff~, you'll always be my Erzulie.
I don't care.
