You MUST, MUST MUST go... It is an extraordinary production. Gorgeous to look at and beautifully sung.

From the clips online, the set design and staging looks extremely creative.

Thanks for reminding me of this. I booked a ticket today for next Thursday's matinee. If you use Travelzoo's code -- TZHalf -- you get half price. I got the middle of Row K for $47 and no extra fees.

I will be seeing it 4 times, and wish I could see it more. Everyone has that one show that changed his or her life, and OOTI is mine. It makes me a little sad that tickets are so easy to come by, as it SHOULD be the hottest ticket around. I will be there at Thursday's matinee as well.

It's a beautiful production, well-performed by an exceptionally good cast. Syesha Mercado is phenomenal as Ti Moune.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Are they using the all-black version of the script or the multiracial version that uses slightly different versions of some scenes and lyrics?

I know MTI provides both, and I've heard both ways which one Ahrens and Flaherty prefer.

It's an all black cast.

I've never heard of a professional production using a white cast. The alternate lyrics/dialogue were created to allow high schools and community theatre in predominatly white areas to do the show.

There was word of a big, multiracial (I'm assuming mixed/colorblind) production on another board. I wasn't sure if this was it.

Adam Jacobs isn't black though

I saw it last week. I couldn't have hoped for a better production of one of my favorite musicals.

The cast is exceptional and the direction/choreography spot on. This is probably the closest I've seen to matching the original Broadway production. The changes are subtle, but quite successful. If you're a gigantic a fan of the show, as I am, I couldn't recommend this production more. A perfect production with some great touches that made me discover new things about the piece. Mercado's Ti Moune is jubilant and heartbreaking. A remarkable performance. Top-to-Bottom, not a weak link in the exceptional cast.

I can't think of another show that makes me come out smiling at the end like this one does.

The set was quite inventive, looking as if the Islanders constructed it. The creative team adds some wonderful details throughout that only heighten the work. I especially loved the costuming for the gods.

Not sure of Adam Jacobs' ethnicity, but it's definitely a pretty traditionally cast Island. Jacobs just appears to be lighter skinned, which works perfectly for what the role calls for.

And the new orchestrations are even better than the (fantastic) original ones.
