Iused to get a bunch and keep them in a bag and have plans for selling them on ebay. Hahaha. Now, I keep them untill someone A- takes them off my hands or B - Takes them off my hands. Anyone wants a playbill, PM me.
If I was a sucker and paid the full $450 price for "Young Frankenstein" tickets, I'd walk out with at least 50 programs, a chunk of the proscenium, my seat cushion, Megan Mullaly's wig, and a pair of binoculars afterwards...
Really though, I did pay like $180 bucks for two front row center Grand Mezz tickets to the second night of previews in Seattle (such a deal compaired to you New Yorkers!) My sister and I did walk out with about 3 programs each (though didn't get any signitures like I was hoping to). Granted, when I was in high school, I helped design posters and programs for our theatre productions, so they do hold a special value to me, which is why I usually end up taking at least three home with me. Though, in Seattle, they don't seem to be as stingy, as they usually are stacks and stacks near the house exits that are unguarded after the show.
I usually take a good handful from the stacks behind the seats on my way out...
I also had to sneak an extra playbill from Spamalot about a year and a half ago. They were only handing out one for two to share because there was a power outage in Queens where the Playbills were printed.
If I want an extra, I pick one up off the ground on the way out. I figure if its on the ground, its not going to be reused.
Better to be given to a fan than put in a garbage can.
And that rhymed.
