...with a post-it that says "Hugs from Rosie"
I usually just keep the one I was given when I am seated unless someone from home has requested a Playbill or the one I have during the show gets messed up in some way. I think the most I took was about 4. That was from The Color Purple in Nov. of 2005. I was buying the mugs for a few people so I wanted to include the Playbill in the purple bags with the mugs.
I don't take extra - it's greedy and pointless. You only need one.
The only time I'll grab 1 (one) extra playbill is if the one I got when I came in is in poor condition.

I take around 35-40 depending on if I like the show or not...
Actually I get 2 or 3 because I get 1 signed at the stage door and put that in my playbill binder. I have 1 for my non-signed collection. And 1 extra incase my other one doesn't make it through baggage claim. haha
I'll take 1-3. One to get signed (if I get it signed) 1 for a friend if she hasn't seen the show but wants to, and one backup.

You guys are aware that the theatre doesn't have an unlimited supply of Playbills, correct? And that technically what you are doing constitutes stealing, right? Keep in mind that the productions PAY for these programs, they are not free. Simply because they issue ONE to each person and additional ones when asked does not mean it is an all you can grab buffet. If Playbill doesn't ship the correct number of programs (and yes, it has happened), the theatre can run out. Even if they have received the following week's shipment, the house staff are not supposed to use them because of potential cast changes or editorial changes.
It's not really stealing if you take playbills that other people left behind which is what a lot of people said they do.
Yes... i see your point about stealing. My OCD kicks though and i feel i "NEED" alot even though in reality i don't. I do like giving them as gifts as well though. I have learned the lesson and will not grab as much next time.
I dunno about you guys, but when I made $10 off a La Bohème playbill on eBay thanks to some crazy Il Divo fan, I didn't regret grabbing extras.
I always grab a few extra. I want to make sure I have a nice one for the stagedoor. The rest... someday I'm going to wallpaper.
I'm with Munk, I take only one. Upgrade to a better one if needed. Read it when I get home. Then add it to the others. Ebay is a good ideal, but I don't think tour Playbills would go for much.
Oh please. The theatre may run out. And they may also have 800 left at the end of the week that just get thrown into the trash. I personally think it's stupid and unnecessary to grab 30 playbills, but to call it stealing is ridiculous.
Depends who's in them...like selling one from when Sutton Foster as Eponine, during her Millie days?
That said, I don't usually pick up extras solely for hte purpose of eBay, but it can also be fun to present it to someone years later, just for the reaction.

Fosse76 - I've seen enough ushers be instructed to throw out stacks and stacks that I can't help but disagree with your assessment.
Playbills are delivered weekly to each theatre, in amts. specific to that theatre. If people start grabbing gobs of them, sometimes we run out and the people coming in later start barking at the mgt. Of course picking up extras left behind is a better idea.
The only time I've taken an extra one was when I saw Moon and wanted to get Kevin Spacey's autograph for her as well as for myself. And then I grabbed one that was on the floor left by another patron.
And on Sunday, helping with the Elephant Project quest, I grabbed one from Curtains that was sitting on the ledge in the box office, looking all forlorn. Now I can see the show and not worry about stage dooring! :)
I take one extra usually, so when I stage door, I have a clean copy.
The most I've ever taken was at Wedding Singer's closing night. I asked the usher if I could have a few more, and gave me an entire stack, tied up in string because they couldn't use them anymore obviously.
Wrong reasoning...stacks are thrown out if the previous days' "cast change inserts" are still in. AE rep periodically checks this, especially in musicals, where "understudies" and "swings" perform more frequently. Also the "playbill stories" and "advertisers" are different each month (even for long playing shows.) There's a reason for most things mgmt. does.
Taking 30 is out of control... more than five is even excessive, but grabbing a few extras isn't relly hurting anyone.

Everyone on this board might like grabbing extras but we are theatre freaks. We wouldn't be on this board if we weren't. The other 95% of the people in a theatre either leave them on the floor, throw them in the trash on their way out, or forget about them and leave them on the subway. It's not like everyone in the theatre trys to get 10 extra playbills.
Wow...antonijan is slacking. I haven't seen him post one picture of his wall yet today, especially in this thread. What's wrong?!
I was out making a living so I could watch all those shows :P and I haven't hung the 2 new playbills I got.....
Wait this weekend to see the updated playbill collection!!!!
I promise

That's why I bring a small plastic bag with me. Just throw them in there an no fingerprints.

I always put some playbill sleeves in my bookbag that I carry around NYC. I always have a lot so whenever I get my playbills they go right into a sleeve with my ticket stub. People always look at me funny. Especially when I ask the people next to me for their ticket stub because I printed mine off the computer. They thought I was weird.
This place scares me a little more each day.

That IS weird. If you want a real ticket stub, why don't you just have yours held at the box office?
That would be a little freaky to me...the ticket stubs have the peoples names on it...
