My Mom and I are thinking of seeing it during our September trip. I've seen some bad reviews. How did you like it?
I'd suggest you use the 'search' feature and just put the word FROGS in the subject line. I'm definitely pro-Frogs, others are definitely against. Go back and read some of the comments made as each one saw the show.
You will get very mixed views.
I'm seeing it tonight!

I absolutly loved it but it may not be to everyone's taste. Much political thought-left wing-but that is in the original. Cast is excellent and the music goes without saying.

Overall, I did like it. Roger bart and Nathan Lane are very funny. It did drag a little, but it is worth seeing.
Democrats are in for a fun show, basically.
If you do not want to be told that BUSH IS BAD, (along with a fun, great, hilarious show and cast) do not see it.
However, if you agree with that message: you will love it.
It is a flawed show, but a overly-excited, exuberant fun night of theatre.

I truly had a marvelous time, and I saw it early in previews. The only time I thought it boring was the debate at the end. I'd see it again if I could, but will just have to wait for the CD. Who knows, maybe it'll end up on PBS!
Missy, did you see the show in previews or after opening? They've tightened the show a lot now and it is a fun evening.
I know someone going tonight too (Tuesday) so there will be two BWrs in the audience :)
ChrisLovesShows. My advice on this and any show is never let the reviewers dictate what you see. Read the reviews, by all means, but make up your own mind considering the theme of the show, the actors, etc.
You will find that you are often delightfully surprised about a show that gets bad reviews. And Frogs got mixed reviews, so all the more reason to hold your opinions and go see the show.
I thought it was brilliant, thought provoking and witty, but I believe I'm in the minority there!

I saw THE FROGS last Wednesday evening with three friends, and we enjoyed the production very much. This is a very different type of musical, even for Sondheim. The Greek chorus is employed throughout to great effect, and the mood of the entire show is in the tradition of broad, satirical Greek comedy. The music amplifies the message but takes a back seat to it. Unapologetic vaudeville bits and pointed political barbs drive the book, and the dialogue does get a little preachy. But every one of the performances is a gem. There isn't a weak link in the cast.
Don't expect subtlety or complex plot lines. There is one essential point being made here, and it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. But the vigor, humor, and earnestness with which this show is presented make THE FROGS very entertaining. If your politics are in line with Nathan Lane's, you'll cheer. If you take what eternally grumpy critics say with a grain of salt, you'll laugh out loud.
I'm glad I saw it. There's plenty of time to see other shows that have a longer shelf life. This one will become a part of theater history all too soon.

If you liked Kattan (I certainly didn't) then you'll LOVE Roger Bart. Go see it again while there are discounts available.
Thanks for all the great scoop, everyone. I'm taking my Mom to New York September 17 - 20 and we have tickets for The Producers (I've seen it, she hasn't) and Bombay Dreams, but we'd like to see one more show. Between us, we have seen virtually every other musical except for The Frogs. Both of our politics definitely fit in with Nathan Lane's, so we will probably see this one.
What about off-Broadway? Any recommendations?
I saw it in the beginning of August and loved it. I thought it dragged a little in the second act. But Roger Bart and Nathan Lane were hysterical. I love Roger Bart he's a fabulous actor. But show wise I thought it was good. It's worth the money and time to see it.
