"I remember my parents taking me to see Love, Valour, Compassion when I was 12 and the nudity didn't phase me at all."
That was YOU?????
I swear I was coming to this thread to tell the tale of a 12 year old at the matinee of L!V!C! that I attended. But I doubt it was you, cause this kid seemed bored out of his mind.
I was actually doing a Christmas show down in Orlando once. You would think this would be benign for kids, right? Well...the centerpiece of the first act is this debate on whether Santa exists. At our last show (on Christmas Eve!!), a whole family got up and walked out with kids BAWLING. We just killed Santa and ruined Christmas.
Oopsie.
That's funny Robbie. If the 12 year old you saw was wearing a tiara and glitter in his hair then yes, that was me. (I jest)
And I wasn't bored at all. I was totally in their world for the duration of that show. It was a tranformational experience.
This kid was gnawing through milk duds through ALL THREE ACTS. And his mom had that very special kind of New York crazy about her.
I'm with you on the transformational part. After seeing LVC and The Only Thing Worse You Could Have Told Me in one weekend, I came out to my parents. Let's just say they weren't shocked.
I'm actually grateful that my parents took me to see 'adult' shows when I was 12/13. My first three were the revival of SWEET CHARITY, CHORUS LINE and the revival of DREAMGIRLS. Those shows shaped me in a very profound way.
