William David Brohn is always a genius with putting guitar parts in his shows.

Another example: If anyone has ever seen Happy Days: The Musical, I noticed that there is only ONE section that has banjo: The Mothers' Pies Tap Dance. Hey, it's the '50s! But for the rest of the show, it's all sweet acoustic, and rockin' electric. Hey, it's the '50s!!

Did I mention 42nd Street already?

My first national tour of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, our guitarist was doubling on banjo, I seem to recall. Not exactly sure which songs, this tour was tailored for Dolly Parton's sister Stella to sing, so it may be something not quite the norm.

Godspell traditionally has uke in the pit or onstage for "All for the Best," but the film's orchestrations used onscreen ukelele AND a banjo subbing in for the guitar. I still think the song sounds best with the banjo part.

Also- least likely show to use a banjo sub-out: High School Musical 2 On Stage has both guitars sub out during the Talent Show section for tenor banjo and ukelele.

HSM2 on stage -- you're right about that. I'm guessing that's for "Tina and her Tippy Tappy Shoes!" Or whatever that (intentionally) dopey act in that sequence is.

The banjo is used more than the guitar in THREEPENNY OPERA, and the guitar in FINIAN'S RAINBOW plays banjo only in a couple of spots. In JUBILEE, the part is more guitar and than banjo.

Pretty sure there was a banjo in the original 'Jeeves' - it was then cut and it's absence turned into a joke for 'By Jeeves'...

But the song 'Banjo Boy' remains does it not?

And don't forget the entire song devoted to the instrument in Meet Me in St. Louis, cleverly titled "Banjos."

Is there any ukelele in "Humuhumunukunukuapua'a?" And what guitar book has what?

There's some really fun banjo work in the "Mame" number from....ummmm....
And there's that big "Money To Burn" song in "Half a Sixpence".
Both arrangements are really quite fun, and the banjo in the "Mame" dance music (as is that whole number) is a hoot from hell delight. Banjo players are particularly happy that the tune CLOSES the act and gives hands a chance to rest.!
