Wow.
I wish I saw the original RENT cast so badly- even though the replacements are very excellent, no one to me can compare to the voices on the soundtrack.
I'm so happy to hear Belle Callaway is back in CHICAGO- though I really wish she would do something else just because she is extremely talented and shes been on and off with Chicago for about 4-5 years now. Just one question- How can she be playing Roxie and be a stand by for Mama Morton? It might be a dumb question, but I dont get it.

Elphie...I so agree with you about RENT...I'm addicted to the cast recording but there's no way to see the original cast!
As for original casts I've seen, I saw AGYG, Kiss Me, Kate, Gypsy, Wicked, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Movin' Out. They weer all amazing, I don't know how I could choose just one!

Posted: 11/18/03 at 4:31pmI, too, was fortunate to have seen the OBC of "Sweeney Todd" (Lansbury, Cariou, Ken Jennings, Merle Louise) and it was wonderful. It has to be ranked among the best ever on Broadway.

Belatedly answering the Belle Calaway question...the fabulous Charlotte d'Amboise is currently playing Roxie on Broadway. Belle is the standby for both Roxie and Mama, and when I went last week she happened to be on for Charlotte, who had a scheduled absence.

Thoroughly Modern Millie, I first saw it a few days before the Tony Awards show, and I just went nuts. It remains my all time favorite.
The Producers
Evita
Wicked. This cast is phenominal!
Lots of others, but these 4 stand out. Many show shows are good on their own, no matter who's in them, but these are special.

Posted: 11/20/03 at 10:53pmI, sadly, have never seen an original cast production. I'm begging my mother to let me see Wicked but I cant miss school she says. I hope to see some in the future though :)

Baz (and his wife, who designed Boheme as well as all of his other endeavours) did indeed do a fantastic job of La Boheme (I have the tape of its original inception at the Sydney Opera House and was fortunate enough to catch a performance of the Broadway run). However, I find his films to be irreverent and lacking. Baz does a much better job with theatre.
And, since they are famous for mounting non-traditional productions, I think a marriage between the NYCO and Baz would be a very interesting match. Let's see him take on La Traviata!
Oh wait, he already has, hasn't he....
