A while ago I saw a Playbill feature saying that the musical Over Here! may be heading back to Broadway.
While this is a lost musical, I feel it is still timely and a great musical at that. Possibly some new arrangements or even songs written by a current composing team?
Who do you think would be a great cast for the revival?
Sisters: Sutton Foster/Stephanie Block
Mitzi: Rachel York
June: Leigh Ann Larken
Who would play the others? Just curious on everyone's thoughts.

Posted: 12/19/12 at 1:25pmIt's a fun show with an absurd sensibility, but I'm not sure I'd ever call it great or timely. It was a vehicle for the surviving Andrews Sisters, and the pastiche score is so fashioned to their talents and their personalities, that I think reviving it on Broadway would be a huge challenge, unless driven by stars of equal magnitude. One thing the show does not need are new arrangements - Michael Gibson's original orchestrations are to die for.

Saw the original & really liked it. In addition to Travolta, Marilu Henner was in it. Janie Sell appeared to disappear after this one.
The Overture was out of sight. The music was fun but the whole thing would not work now.

Janie Sell now goes ny the name of "Jane" Sell and was Carol Burnett's alternate for the run of MOON OVER BUFFALO.

Posted: 12/19/12 at 9:48pmA score I never tire of hearing. The Broadway production was perfection by any standard, with the great Phyllis Somerville, John Driver, April Shawhan, and all the aforementioned talent. It was a perfect night out. I remember seeing in on a Friday in June of the year it opened and being transported. Everything worked, the company, the tone, the use of the Andrews Sisters. And it looked terrific. But the Patricia Birch choreography was homage and thrilling. I was 25, had no knowledge of the 40's, and I was transported to a magical place. It's a kitsch entertainment that comes close to being something else, thanks to the Sherman Brothers' score: pastiche that transcends. The real deal.
