Posted: 9/13/13 at 1:17pmNo. You have to watch the damn thing first.

Posted: 9/13/13 at 1:21pmIt is frowned upon to stop actors when they are entering the Theatre. Since the actor is on their way to work, they could be in a rush, not want to be disturbed before the show, could already be in “The Zone” or be getting mentally/physically ready for the show. You should wait till after when they have much more time.

Posted: 9/13/13 at 1:23pmEven if he signs something pre-show one day, that doesn't set a precedent. Pre-show means he's trying to get to work and probably won't have the time or won't make the time to sign too much just steps away from going into his job.

Posted: 9/13/13 at 1:32pm1) I AM watching the "damn thing" first. I need to catch a train as soon as the show ends. Thats why I am asking about pre-show. 2) Seth Rudetsky himself (you novices probably don't even know who he is) told me that performers actually prefer you come to the stage door PRIOR to the show. 3) A friend told me to not post on this message board as most (not all) of you are rude and will take a simple question and turn it into something negative just to start a fight because you're missing something in your own lives. My friend was right. I'll ask my REAL theater friends if they've heard anything. Adios!

I cry troll if you don't stick to that "adios". Regardless of what Seth may or may not have said, most actors do not prefer to see fans pre-show.
Your best bet is to leave a note at the stage door before the show, letting him know you'll be there and leaving him something to sign, hope for the best and take the next train out. If there is no next train out, leave a self addressed stamped envelope.
Good luck and goodbye.

And this was one of the most polite threads I've seen around these parts, too, at least before we were then accused of being rude nobodies
Progress!

So in other words, you didn't get the answer you wanted, and therefore decided to insult all of BWW for not indulging your delusions.
Fine, show up before the show. Good luck getting knocked out of the way by the theatre's security who won't let you near him. Can't wait for the upcoming post about how mean the Richard Rodger's doorman is.

Ha. Of course she doesn't just want something signed, she wants to meet him and get a picture she can show off on social media. Come on, ghostlight, this is a TRUE theatre fan, not one of us novices.

Posted: 9/13/13 at 6:10pmHongus, Orlando Bloom IS a stage actor. He used to do a one man show on the stage from St. Joseph, Missouri to Kearney, Nebraska. Even helped fight off a band of desperados one time without missing a line.

Posted: 9/13/13 at 8:01pmSorry, no. Pre-show stagedoor is generally NOT appreciated, whether Seth Rudetsky says so or not. I've heard plenty of actors complain about it. These people are getting to the theatre when they feel they have to be there in order to get ready to do their job, not to sign autographs and take photos. There's a stagedoor after the show where actors know they will be asked for autographs and photos and you can go at any point and wait and try your luck. If you can't make it, oh well. It is what it is.

Ilovenyc while I don't agree with all the bitchiness.they are saying truth. the first rule of visiting the theater is you're coming to their workplace. Dont talk bother or get in the way until after the show the job the work day is done. Then its ok to have a toast a kiss or say hello or give a job well done.
Anyway don't let the teasing go to heart. Its just a hazing of sort.

And the obnoxious Seth Rudetsky is SUCH an authority on theater candor! (I find him exceptionally irritating. Minority opinion, I know. But he IS enthusiastic.)
