Thanks for posting that link Brody, really great.
Wow - like some of you I haven't seen that clip since 1974! Thanks Brody - think I need to do an ipod listen now!

Is the idea of reviving Promises, Promises any more or less idiotic than the idea of reviving Over Here? Shows are meant to be revisited and explored again, and I for one, would not mind a swinging, toe tapping, high energy dance musical right about now. As much as I love to sit and think about character and plot and theatrical devices, every once in a while I want to see a guy and a girl dance for 8 minutes none stop and bring down the house with kicks and tricks.

Wow amazing clip. Ann Reinking and Wayne Cilento kick Broadway Theater @ss with their dancing. Too young in 1974 to even remember this one (I was only 6) but I do own the Cast Album.
Marquise, sweets... Ann Reinking's partner on the 1974 Tony Awards clip is John Mineo. Wayne Cilento is Donna McKechnie's partner in that weak attempt on that 1982 TV Special THAT'S SINGING!.
I adore this idea for a revival! I definitely think it's time.
I have loved this score for years, but when I read the libretto about seven years ago, I realized that it probably wouldn't work for most modern audiences. It's a "Remember the Good Old Days" show at a time when no one remebers the 1940s. Get the CD, though.
I did write a blog on this topic, relating it to its sister show, GREASE. I'm linking it below.

I grew up listening to Big Band music with my grandfather, and still listen to it. I am 30 years old and would ADORE to sit in a theater and see a big, brassy fun show with boys in uniforms and trumpets blaring.
I've had to sit through MANY revivals that have not been my cup of tea-but they had their fans, and therefore had some merit.
Whoops. My bad BrodyFosse. I got my dancers mixed up. Thanks for the correction and that great clip.

I think it does depend on cast though. I really hope they can pull it together!
I'm following this on twitter and it looks like they're gearing up to announce officially who the performers will be http://twitter.com/overherela
so we'll see!
