As was said,it's always an amazing revelation to see these old podcutions in colour. In face this makes me wish we had similar threads for the 40s Rodgers and Hammerstein Shows, Brigadoon, Kiss Me Kate etc. I've seen a few (especially for Oklahoma) but... I suppose pre 1940 we relaly wouldn't have any colour shots of most musicals like Show Boat etc.

But it does make a HUGE difference. I'm a big ballet fan and recently the Kirov/Maryinsky reconsturcted the original 1890 production of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty. The Imperial Russian Ballet by the 1890s took elaborate photographs of their ballets (and operas)--the costumes and full sets with dancers on them. And after years of seeing them in black and white, to see them in their original colour when reconstructed is almost 75% a completely different experience.
