On TalkinBroadway.com, a poster writes that he wrote to PBS and received a message saying what most of us knew already:

There WILL NOT be a DVD/Video of the PASSION concert currently airing on PBS starring Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald, due to the limitations of the standard contract signed by the cast and crew of the production.

Most PBS stations will, however, be playing the concert twice.

I'm making this a seperate post to reiterate that those of you who missed it, might want to make sure you tape it next airing, because it won't likely be seen again.

I think that's pretty standard for the "Live From Lincoln Center" broadcasts. There's something in the agreement that only allows for the initial live broadcast, then a repeat. The same was true with the wonderful NYCO production of A Little Night Music in early 90's. That was never released either, so you just have to be lucky and know someone who taped it.

CANDIDE was part of the "Great Performances" series, which often get video releases.

I did a quick search on IMDB.COM and there are only three titles that have ever been put on video from the "Live at Lincoln Center" catalog.

Not to threadjack, but is Candide only being released as a DVD or will there be a CD too?

Now you see why Broadway shows are not taped

I did not watch it. I saw the original show & have the DVD of it so I had no interest in this

I'm looking at the WNED website (for Western New York / Southern Ontario), and there's no mention of a repeat in their schedule. Does anyone know of anything?

Was CONTACT a Live at Lincoln Center presentation? I mean it was at Lincoln Center but I thought it was a Great Performances.

If it were a Live at Lincoln Center presentation -- that would explain why it hasnt been aired again. If it were a Great Performance presentation, they could be holding it because of the "planned" movie version of it.

If you are on the East Coast, the next airing is Sunday at 4am.

I believe Contact was Great Performances, b/c I remember seeing it more than twice on PBS.

I taped Passion last night while I watched it. It was so, so good.

I have heard that this Candide is not that great, I wish they would release the Adolph Green, Lenny version that was done on Lasar Disk several years ago; but then again I wish they would put the 1973 recording on cd too!

I believe CONTACT was a "Live at Lincoln Center" since, well, it was aired live and at Lincoln Center.

And I already put PASSION on DVD so I could care less about them keeping it.

Blue Wizard - Our Buffalo PBS station (WNED) has already showed it twice: at 8 PM on Thursday and again at 2:30 am Friday. if you missed it, e-mail me.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
