From viable news reports, the makers of the Phantom film are thrilled with the singing talents of its principle cast.
I think many of us are delighted to know that this film is not being dubbed, but I wonder why? Most of us clearly understand the difference between something live and on film. Why does it disturb us to think a film will be dubbed?
It just seems to. When I was very young, I remember falling in love with Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady. I was devastated, I tell you DEVASTATED, when I was told she had not sung her songs in My Fair Lady. I don't know why, but I was.
I don't know if that fact changed my love for the film, or just my level of love for Ms. Hepburn, but it sure changed something.
Having viewed and heard scenes with Ms. Hepburn's singing voice, it is clear that the vastly superior singing talents of Marni Nixon added a whole other magical dimension to the My Fair Lady film.
So is it just the disappointment in the performer in the film that disturbs us, or does it mess up the whole film watching experience?
