I read the others posts.
"You look kinda uninformed right now."
Unnecessary comment.
"That guy that I called a hater made a totally ignorant useless comment."
So the fact that he made a comment you didn't like makes it 'ignorant' and 'useless'? Much like your calling me 'uniformed'.
"What are we supposed to say to posts like that?"
I guess by posting, "So I think you are exaggerating.”

oh my goodness........would you stop just lookin at what I post totally out of context? Wow!
When I said that that guy was exaggerating, he was saying how RENT needed "to die" right now, and so I said that thing about getting mad at the actors who are lazy in that show. He claimed they were all lazy; I claimed only one or two were lazy. He called me all kinds of names for disagreeing with them, and all I said was that he exaggerting.......yet youre attacking me? hmmmmmm
I'm not attacking you, I'm just asking.
And as I said, I read the other posts, not just yours.
I've just never seen any one so new to the board be so rude to other posters before.
I just thought I'd ask, but you seem to be in your own world.
Never mind.

Sorry there's no way you read the other posts and you admitted you are just getting my posts off my profile which doesnt show the other posts.
You tried to called me out for being rude, but I showed you that all the comments you quoted were either in jest or they were in response to another poster's hostility.
I see what you were trying to do, but it failed. You didnt prove your case.
Now why dont you stop thinkin about me and move on to a worthwhile converation here on the boards! I will let you get in the last word............. : )
"Sorry there's no way you read the other posts and you admitted you are just getting my posts off my profile which doesnt show the other posts."
Yes, there is. Just click on your posts and it's leads to the thread. So I read the whole thread. So you are mistaken.
"Now why dont you stop thinkin about me and move on to a worthwhile converation here on the boards!"
Yes, I will. Anything is better than this.

Diva is just being astute in his observation that you seem to come down just as hard on people whose posts you don't seem to be a fan of. We have moderators, we don't need message board police to tell people that they need to elaborate on why they didn't like something. I agree that I'd wish people would expand more on it instead of leaving it flat, but to post on their tail and make inane commentary about it is silly.
I just hope that my one post was able to enlighten you from making 100 more that scold others.

Thanks for your post lady roscoe......you just saved me from writing 100 posts that scold others.
I think I pretty much have it--you can write a posts that criticizes me personally when I disagree with another comment, but then I am supposed not disagree when someone writes posts like "this show sucks"
gotcha

I saw the show about a year ago and the ensemble seemed a bit "off", too. The dancers seemed to just sort of be tuning themselves out during the show. Masquerade felt like that as did the ballet sequences. Madame Giry also tends to fade into the background. The male dancer I saw was totally not "with it", he seemed VERY out of it. Carlotta was AMAZING, she got a bigger hand than McGilling.
here are the people im talking about:
Giry: Marilyn Caskey
Male Dancer: Daniel Rychlec
Carlotta: Patricia Phillips

At least they gave their opinion, as it is a message board. Telling me my post was "pointless" and "contributes nothing" when that basically describes the majority of yours says a lot.
And this personal attack business sounds like a lot of nonsense too if you ask me. Just saying.

That's a pretty good memory for seeing the show a year ago, Boq. I'm surprised you thought masquerade was off--it always seems like the actors have the most fun in that scene. And, there are so many nuanced dance moves that I look to see if they hit each time--and they always do.
But, constructive criticism like yours is what keeps a good show running.

I remember it because I havent seen much since then, and because it was the first time i've sat fourth row center orchestra. Masquerade was sloppy, its as if the entire cast had been spinning in circles for all of intermission before going onstage.

That's terrible! you gotta see it again to erase that awful memory from your mind. let me know i'll hook u up with some tix : )

George, thanks but no thanks, I got better things to do. Staring at the cieling comes to mind.

uhh boq i dont think Brianidol, I think he was referring to that girl who was on this thread before who was yelling at me.
But, if youd rather look at the ceiling than take me up on my offer, that's cool. enjoy the rest of your weekend.

"I think he was referring to that girl who was on this thread before who was yelling at me."
To use your words, "You cant hear tone in these posts so you shouldnt assume that my tone is negative." Insert yelling where negative goes and there's your logic.
It takes a lot for me to yell, not just some boob on the internet

Yeah, the dressing room is old and creaky, but as someone else pointed out, it always was (creaky, at least). It's one of my favorite pieces in the show, partially because everything on it is manual. It's pushed out by hand to its spike marks, no automation, no tracks in the floor. The mirror is opened by literally pulling on the "glass", and the door pops open when a guy pulls on a string. Then it all comes apart for storage. It's a very old-school set piece in a show that is otherwise very minimalist and automated, and somehow that makes me happy. You probably have had something exactly like it in your high school.

Dover that's pretty much why I liked the dressing room set too....there's something quaint about how it creaks as it gets pushed out.
I agree with the others, george, who've said that you are overly defensive when faced with a differing opinion. You seem very hostile when anyone has an opinion of POTO that isn't perfectly bright and shiny. It's downright annoying, and this is coming from one of the biggest phans you'll probably ever "meet." The bottom line is, whether we like it or not, some people just don't care for the show. Now if they feel obligated to come into every POTO-related thread and make snide comments, then that's their own problem, and they should probably go find some sort of life-enriching activity that doesn't involve the Internet. But don't get so defensive when someone suggests that they felt the cast was "off." Or if they think a set piece in the show could use an update. I suggested that I would like to see updates to the fireballs in Wandering Child (NOTE: NOT that the show was or HAD to change), and you flew off the handle. It honestly seems that a difference of opinion actually angers you (as you wrote in your first post in this thread: "posts like yours can really chap my hide......what do you mean when you say the rest of the cast 'seemed off'?"). It's just not necessary. Also, taking shots at RENT makes you a bit of a hypocrite.
You don't need to prove to people that Phantom is perfect, because it isn't. It's a live show, and just like any live show, people may be off in their performances, or an audience member just plain may not like it as much as other shows or previous viewings.
Back on topic, Gleason is a hundred times better in the title role. I would love to see him take over as the Phantom in one of the productions full time. His interpretation of Raoul is too mechanical for my tastes, but he really is something else in the title role.

did you really bring up the "chaps my hide" quote? Why would I be serious if I said something like "chap my hide"??? I dont take this board seriously and anybody could say whatever the heck they want about Phantom. It just bugged me when people make GENERALIZED comments about it being bad, so I said I'd like to hear what they mean specifically.
So why dont you start going after the people who get mad at new members who ask about things without searching? Those people REALLY get mad........and STOP taking me so seriously.......this is JUST a message board.
do you work at Phantom Goerge? I'm just wondering how you can get tickets?:)
Broadway Legend Joined: 1/1/08
no i'm just a poor catholic h.s. teacher in the 'hood but I've got discounts up the wazoo and I'm always trying to get ppl to go with me. Or other shows! I do see other shows!
"did you really bring up the "chaps my hide" quote? Why would I be serious if I said something like "chap my hide"??? "
I know of people who use "laddie" in their daily vocabulary, so "chap my hide" doesn't come as a particular surprise.
"I dont take this board seriously and anybody could say whatever the heck they want about Phantom."
You obviously do take it seriously if you make those types of previous replies and come off as that defensive.
"It just bugged me when people make GENERALIZED comments about it being bad, so I said I'd like to hear what they mean specifically."
I agree with you here. If someone dislikes it, I'm always interested to know why. But please, sometimes it seems that if their opinion doesn't align with yours, sometimes you just don't seem to hear it, or try hard to persuade them otherwise.
"So why dont you start going after the people who get mad at new members who ask about things without searching?"
Because I just don't care. I'm not on this board enough during the day for it to bother me. I'm here to learn a little about new shows, and to keep tabs on what people think of Phantom. This is the second or third time in a row I've seen this in a Phantom thread, but as far as I know this is the first time it was actually addressed.
" Those people REALLY get mad........and STOP taking me so seriously.......this is JUST a message board."
Then you, in turn, have to take it less seriously, because it certainly doesn't seem that way to others right now. It's not my goal to offend you, but the lack of personal interaction through text means that sometimes your actions come across differently to others.
